Win95 Emu

I'm trying to play Zork I, II and III, along with some other old, old, old RPGs which actually got re-vamped to work on even 95. There's no hope on Vista, compatibility mode is useless.

There was a tutorial for getting it to work on XP, but even that required special programs, a DOS emulator and commands and other things that make my head hurt. Does anyone have any ideas?

My idea is to get an emulator for Windows 95, or maybe make a small partition for it on Virtual PC. But then there's the issue of finding it...

That's where you come in, SOLVE MY PROBLEM!

Please? :D

Well if a simple DOS emulator is going to hurt your head I'm afraid I don't have a more simpler answer for you.

VMWare with a copy of Win95... I could go into details, but like you said. The DOS one got you and that's the simplest method ;) :D

Hahaha that's not actually the problem. The problem with that is I'd need a floppy drive because it expects the file to boot from there. I can't run a command for it to run install from the C drive. It might need an ISO to mount the image but I doubt that'd help.

Get a USB Floppy drive, and Microsoft Virtual Machine.

But what's wrong with using dosbox? I've got all 3 Zorks Running 100% via that!

I think part of the problem is my idiocy with DOS. not sure what command will run install. I can figure it out, I'm sure, but might be an easier way. Posting from my phone atm, but xan you help me out with the command line to run install?

well it depends on the game dude.

But once you got dosbox installed do this.

lets say you got zork folder on c: for example in c:\zork

then you can go mount c:\zork d:

the D: is the dosbox drive it will be using.

so then you just type d: and you are in zork

then type dir /p

it will display directory contents. look for setup, or install.

then just type install.exe or setup.exe and you are on your way man!

I actually found a Java alternative that runs Zork and other classic games in-browser. Thanks though!

Zork is impressive. Fun. And annoying.
