Are you planning to upgrade to Windows 10?

  • Nope. Not a Windows user.

Not sure why they put a 64 bit Windows on my client's machine which had only 1 gb memory, so I had to upgrade it to 2 gb.

It is now running very fast in Windows 10, which I upgraded it to from Windows 7. Windows 10 seems to make any old laptop run fast.

I'm sure this has been commented on already- 17 pages is too much to go through, but in case not, where's the option in the poll for "I've been running the preview, and will continue to milk it for as long as possible."
I haven't upgraded for about month, so I was wondering how stable it is now? A month ago it still felt like beta software to me- not quite ready to go out. Is this still the case?

My office PC still has not received the update... not sure when it will, but looking forward to it.
Like I say use the command trick to force the Windows 10 update.

How to use:
You open windows update first and as it is searching for updates you type this below in the command prompt and press enter and it should force the download, it might take a few times if you not fully updated.

You have to have automatic updates enabled also
Code:
wuauclt.exe /updatenow

I saw this earlier, but thought it would just get you the "Get Windows 10" icon.

My download actually just started, and a popup asked to confirm licenses etc, so it's on!

Except for many of us it doesn't actually work :p

Hence the ISO trick ^_^

for the icon I used the regedit fix to get it to show up :D.

Probably cause they didn't update properly as it has to say no new updates first before trying it.

Guys, I wanna fiddle with Cortana when I get home (thats what she said?). Region is SA though...anyone foresee any issues with changing region on the fly? (I don't think i plan on ever USING the app store etc....)

Tried all those things, including removing the softwaredistribution/Download folder, and all sorts of other tweaks...for some it just didnt happen :)

Must have been the way they did it as I have done a few clients laptops now with success.

I'm going the ISO route because I have a couple of machines to install it on and don't want to download more than what's necessary. There's something wrong with the ISOs I download though because they don't work anywhere. Trying to download now again. This time the US language version.

oh ok I get free data from Midnight to 7 am so I do it during that time and it is also the end of the month so perfect for me :D.

Meh, I got the UK version, hopes it doesnt give me issues tonight.

Some early benchmarks here and here.

Performance looks ok, here and there a little dip but then, here and there somewhat up aswell. Also, early drivers, will get sorted on a month or two.

So far for the games I've tested I haven't noticed a performance loss in any of them. Guild Wars 2 did seem to be running a lot better but I cant attribute that to the OS since I haven't played it since several updates ago. I will be testing out GTAV and CS:GO tonight.

Same here. ISO route did the trick. Gonna do my gaming PC tonight and hopefully the SSD will make quick work of it.

Oh it will. It's not gonna be as fast as say installing a bunch of updates, but I think it was less than 10 minutes from setup to booted in. Not bad at all for an OS :)

Definitely faster than the 2-4 hours normal users have been saying it will take (silly non-ssd's hehe)

Got it working on 1 or two, but my personal pc just refused. hence why i went with ISO method last night. oh well.... *shrug*

what was it doing and what error?

All mine have been between 40-50 min :D

My laptop (HP Envy 15) took 2.5 hours from "preparing" to first boot. It was frustrating, to say the least.

my HP envy 17 was quick so that seems strange, what did you have installed on it?

Tons of things. I develop in Java, C#, Oracle, MySQL and SQL Server every day. When idling my PC eats up 4GB RAM. I often max out 8GB memory usage when I'm at full swing.

...then of course I have Battle.net, Steam and Origin on it as well, and the usual Office products and graphic design apps.
