Hi Gamers

Is there a way to set up a ' Dual Monitor', but running them at separate resolutions?

Tried running one @ 1080p and another @ 1360x768 - with no luck, has to be either / or.

Getting a 32" LED TV, and I want to hook it up to my PS3 and PC, while using my 18.5" for my PC primarily.

Is that with VGA or HDMI cause my old laptop screen which should be same as the PC monitor was set to 1480 res on 17" while my TV was set to 1920/1080p and could change them independantly.

For Dual Monitors There are different modes eg. Extend and Mirror. I'm currently using extend, with monitors with different resolutions and doing what you want. Right click an empty spot on the desktop and select screen resolution, select the resolution for the monitor of your choosing in the window that opens.

I use same on windows 8 thought it would be different in windows 7 :D

I had set mine, but the one of a lower res was simply, seemingly a zoomed version.

Are you using mirror or extend since I have no problems with that at all and hdmi?

Yeah it's the same on windows 7, plus I'm also using windows 8 :)

Went straight from Vista to Windows 8 so took a while to get use to :D.

Well, I will have to check later on. Have a busy morning - and, if all goes well, will be getting my new TV later today :)

Try a neat little program called Ultramon. Awesome tool for windows and managing screens that i cannot be with out.

It's definitely possible to connect 2 screens that run at different resolutions.

You can either connect them both to your GPU (1 HDMI and 1 VGA or DisplayPort) or one can connect to your GPU and the other to your onboard graphics.

Once connected, press Windows key + P to bring up your basic monitor settings:

-Computer Only (leaves your main screen on)
-Duplicate (mirrors main screen onto second screen)
-Extend (creates an extended resolution - 2 1920x1080 screens would give a resolution of 3840x1080)
-Projector Only (leaves your secondary screen on)

If you plan on gaming with multiple screens and running an extended resolution, there would need to be 2 matching resolutions (if 1920 is your X axis and 1080 is your Y axis).

So you could, in essence, run 2 monitors (1440x900 and 1600x900) together without fault.

If you plan on just working on the other screen, you can just follow the previous instructions and connect them to your PC and choose to extend your display.

You can change either resolution under Screen Resolution when right clicking desktop no programs needed.

You should get two monitors that are the same size, I have 2 21.5" monitors, so I have them set at the same Rez.
Windows 8 and 7 shouldnt differ much with those settings

I take it you didn't read the original post

I have a 32" LED TV now , supportive up to a resolution of 1080p. Having said that - my desktop res is still 1360x768, but games are played in full HD, and my PS3's (now using an HDMI cable) interface is 1080p. I have an HDMI to VGA adaptor which I use from my PC to the screen. HDMI port is connected to the HDMI slot on the GPU, and VGA port into VGA slot on screen. When I try connecting PC (VGA) to TV (HDMI), I get no signal however.

If the TV only has one HDMI port get a HDMI 4 port adapter and use HDMI only.

Res should be 1920 unless your graphics does not support it doesn't matter if its VGA or HDMI.

I have 2 HDMI insertion points on the screen.
