Windows 7 sound woes...

Hello.

So I'm having a huge problem here. We upgraded a PC at work to Windows 7 32bit Ultimate (Fresh install so everything was wiped clean). However even after updating drivers and bios and countless other 'fixes', the sound is distorted and crackles. It only happens when a sound is played though.

It's on on-board realtek audio card, and as I say we've updated all drivers, from motherboard to bios to soundcards.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

What about rolling back the soundcard drivers??? I generally found that to work perfectly when mine did the same...

We've tried. We've even gone as far as uninsitalling them completely and using the stock drivers...
have you tried installing a sound card and checking to see if that works... if it does then you know the onboard card is actually faulty... these things happen

Yup. I found an old ESS Maestro-2 sound card lying around at home. Windows 7 doesnt even recognize it. Dont stress though we just gonna put XP back on it...

Its one of those generic realtek onboard soundcards? I've had one PC give me a similar problem, but installing the latest HDAudio drivers from the realtek site solved it.

Yeah dont worry we've tried installing the newest drivers and even the lower versions below that.... rather annoying since the downloads are around 70mb
