Have you ever used a laptop cooling pad?

i have one of these el-cheapo cooling pads that works ok-ish but every so often i have to balance my laptop on the cooling pad above the cooling pad so that it can get more cool air.
 
The first time i bought a cooling pad is when my first laptop an Asus A6000 entertainment notebook was heating up so much every time i had to play a game, i realized later on that my laptop was heating up because the fan outlet hub was blocked with dust, the machine could not be cooled anymore, I definitely realized the importance of keeping my machine dust free & how a cooling pad enhanced the perfomance of my machine in that i could spend a lot of hours playing games on my laptop without it overheating, unfortunately it ended up being broken, now are definitely need a new one for my new laptop, ;)
 
I don't have a laptop myself, but my mom does. If I should get this ... It'll be an awesome Xmas gift from me to her :);)

I've been meaning to get one for a while. My laptop gets quite hot quite fast, which is especially uncomfortable when using it on my lap...
