Johannesburg - A 34-year-old woman is facing fraud charges for stealing casino patrons' jewellery after pretending they were for good luck rituals with a "tokoloshe".

Nancy Shanelle Naidoo promised customers the tokoloshe would bring them luck while gambling after she prayed over their possessions.

But after taking the possessions for the rituals, she never returned the perfume, watches, bracelets and necklaces from luxury brands, reported the Sunday Times.

Prosecutors have charged the 34-year-old with defrauding casino-goers in KwaZulu-Natal of over R2m.
The 53 charges include drugging some victims before making off with their possessions.

The tokoloshe - an evil goblin in African folklore - regularly gets blamed for misfortune.

looooooooool, only in south africa

Oh wow seriously, i am sometimes really speechless at how gullible people are ( even today ) about the tokoloshe....

Sigh, people gambling their savings away is sad enough already. While there may be a place for a little recreational gambling, there are a lot of people busy ruining their lives taking chances on a system that is weighted against them. And then you get another parasite preying on the slow-witted and easily manipulated.

I think casino's should be obliged to post big signs all over showing the weighting system of the various games. I'm not sure many of the patrons are fully educated on how the systems are designed to generate profits. If someone is winning a jackpot, it means that tens or hundreds more have probably lost their money.

I really hate how gullible people can be. Look at this guy for example, clicking on a link without even trying to determine whether it's safe.
