Woo! Load shedding, woo!

Grand Poobah
Hold onto your tinned food and bottlecaps! Stage 1 load-shedding is here.

From the TWIT-er:
#PowerAlert: Eskom is currently load shedding in Stage 1. Load shedding will continue until 8pm tonight.

And from the newswire: Eskom load shedding begins

Update: Fin24 says (quoting Andrew Etzinger as confirmation) that they have gone to Defcon 2 and the load-shedding will now be happening all weekend.

My wife and I are going to go watch the Rocky Horror show at 8pm tonight. I'm glad that Eskom is kind enough to switch the power on for that.

Well that means im going out tonight...

Make sure you hit a place that cooks with gas :p

(EDIT) Forgot to add: we are now at Stage 2 loadshedding, and Eskom plans to be loadshedding all weekend.

Lol... I still dont understand why there is no need for load shedding during winter, where every second person is sitting on a heater, but one silo goes down and were screwed...

but one silo goes down and were screwed...

Apparently the issue was less the silo and more the conveyor belt that fed the whole plant that was under said silo. Now the plant has to be fed manually while they fix the conveyor.

INCOMPETENCE!!!! :wtf:

Manual? I can't see a manual feed topping the capacity of a conveyor.

And the UCG at Majuba isn't going to happen any time soon as well.

i wish we can shed our loads on eskom
Been there, done that (2008). Its not as great as it sounds. In fact its like having to write an extra exam.

Its running at about 1800MW...which is a minor miracle imo. They must be pumping manpower & machinery into that place like crazy. 40 truckloads of coal per hour being...round the clock.

They pretty much stop all maintenance during winter and just run the plants flat out...but that means they need to take a bunch of them offline during summer so we still end up with shortfalls during summer.

The SO flew to JHB on Wednesday and booked in at a guest house. The power was off when he got there and it only came on late at night on Thursday.

Fucking Eskom. I need to study C++ this weekend for my exam on Tuesday. If I sit without power it's kinda disastrous.

If you just need books then a UPS + LED lamp will last forever. If you need a PC...eish.
