The second leg of the Call of Duty: World at War (CoD:WaW) Do Gaming league has drawn to a close, with New Order ([N]Cod5) once again topping the log, UBS|GD coming second, Crak|Kuku on third and Advanced Special Forces (=ASF=Alpha) finishing at fourth.

Peter 'Aldos' Crouse, [N]Cod5 Captain, says the team really enjoyed the tournament.

“In particular the 'capture the flag' games were quite enjoyable, which brought something new to the game. Overall, there was great sportsmanship in the league and we felt it was very well run.

“Our most challenging game in the tournament was against UBS|GD in round two, where we had a lot of disconnect issues and guys dropping out of the game. Despite that frustration, we were happy to have won,” he adds. The final score was 13 -- 11 to [N].

A number of teams, however, pulled out the tournament, most notably the first leg's third placed team, [1st] Alpha COD5, which meant all of their matches were forfeit. But these kinds of challenges are not surprising given how new the game is and the problems the game faced when it was released in terms of the multiplayer mods that were made available and so on.

Barry 'Anthrax' Louzada, Vice Captain of =ASF= Alpha, says they are disappointed with the teams dropping out of the league which is not helping to stimulate a strong competition.

“There are three or four strong teams in the league, and the rest are either new or not as strong as the others. This results in a situation where new teams are getting absolutely decimated and losing interest in the game,” he says. Again, these are teething problems associated with a new league.

Louzada's team placed fourth in the overall standings, but Louzada says the team found it difficult to commit to the league and to practice as much as the other teams. This meant they were not as competitive as they would have liked. Due to these two factors, Louzada says they probably won't participate in the third leg.

“But some of the guys are interested in playing a tournament at rAge, if it happens,” he adds.

[N] say that they will definitely play a third leg and a tournament at rAge if it happens. Other teams have expressed interest as well. For the game to flourish into the future in a competitive scenario, it is going to need the support of the community.
