World Cyber Games Tournament (will blow your mind)

I just found out about this and was, excuse my coarse language, a-fucking-stounded. The World Cyber Games Tournament is basically the Olympics of gaming. It's like a breeding ground for nerds and attracts 1,000,000 players from around the world to watch 600 people mash keyboards.

Seriously this blows my mind. They run it like the Olympics -- a village for the players, a different host country every year, $500,000 prize money. Korea is naturally ranked #1. South Africa is 43rd. It has qualifiers and everything.

You have to play all sorts of games. FPS, RTS, Guitar Hero...

That said, I've handed in my resignation from school and burnt my college acceptance. Whatever tuition money was saved up will now fund my living for the next year so I can get in tip top shape for next year's tournament.

Every time I read something about the WCG, I die inside a little....
I wish SA had more interest in the online scene that could make this happen for us SA gamers.

List of games played this year:
Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne
Starcraft: Brood War
FIFA 10
Counter-Strike 1.6
Trackmania
Carom 3D
Guitar Hero 5
Tekken 6
Forza Motorsport 3
Lost Saga
League of Legends

I'll be honest, 3 of those titles I have never even heard before, so I am sure this event is dominated by the east. Those guys rule the world of competitive gaming.
 
You do realise you gotta qualify in regionals etc then make the national team for this? You cant just rock up lol, and so far only legit way to get in is from MSSA (thats only for like war3 and GH this year i think)
 
I would have absolutely no chance in a games tournament. I took a long break from gaming not too long ago and haven't gotten back into it fully, so I'm out of practice. I'd love to do something like this though. I think it's incredible.
 
Well these guys usually practice and live one game for say 2-4 years so unless you willing to do the same your chances are 1 in a billion?
 
Yeah I was joking about that. Honestly, playing a game enough to be as good as these guys takes too much dedication and boredom for me to sit through. But it's still god damn amazing.
