World of Warcraft - General Discussion

Hey all, I'm thinking of starting up wow again after over a year of abstinance. Want to roll an ally this time as I've leveled a few horde characters and want to see the other sides quests now.
Anyone know of a good server with some SA ally guilds?
I see Phatso was talking about a guild on Lightning's Blade, any openings still and what classes you looking for?

I am in a guild called <Braaivleis> on Lightbringer. Consists of Saffers and we are an Alliance guild. Afaik, we need tanks and healers. Hybrid classes are always in demand :)

Hi, random question.

What is the bandwidth usage like in WoW. I know this might seem weird but I pay per meg (like 10c, 1c over the weekend) at my residence and trying to figure out if playing this will bankrupt me! :-D

Depends on alot of factors. Generally i'd go with 10MB-15MB an hour as a "safe" bet, sometimes it is 5MB, sometimes it is 40MB.

The things that influence your usage:

1. Client updates [WoW can actually update while you play now]
2. The amount of other players around you. Being in a central hub with 200 other players dancing, dueling and going mad will increase your usage compared to standing alone in an empty zone.
3. The amount of dynamic content you do , i.e. if you are traveling alot [zoning] + going into different dungeons + battlegrounds + arenas and basically constantly changing what you're doing it will use more bandwidth.
4. Obviously using VOIP will add to your bandwidth
5. Doing 10/25 man raiding will ramp your usage up quite a bit since it is effectively #3,#4 and #2 combined.

I've gotten away with 5MB an hour if i solo and do standard questing [implying i'm mostly in a single open zone and not idling in a big city] , but when i raided it was easily 40MB an hour.

Thanks so much for that reply.

If I had to buy the new Battlechest with Lich King, do you have any idea of how big the patch would be initially?

Thanks for the help.

Well it is at least 5-7 GB to go from WOTLK -> Cataclysm .

You will have to patch to the latest version whether you actually bought Cataclysm or not. So it might be best to consider getting the latest client from someone.

For those interested, a fully updated WoW client (including all expansions even Cataclysm) uses 25.7GB of disk space. (that's with hardly any screenshots or add-ons).

Thanks for reply but I like my pvp servers and I see Lightbringer is normal :(

Open invite to any rerollers

Lightning's Blade is a PvP Server and Chaos Reign are based there. There is never any queue time and random BG queue's are very quick too.
(since the tenacity fix, we won over 75% of the WG's despite the fact that the server's numbers are dominated by Horde)

We are an Alliance guild and always willing to get more South African's on board. We have raided together since TBC and enjoy every aspect of WoW. We'll be looking at raiding and rated BG's @ 85.

Gimme a /w on Cuteslice or PM me if you can't get hold of me.

PS: we need South African's, obviously tanks and healers are always required, but things change on the way to 85 once we get there, we'll decide what we really need.

Also, this invite is for ANY player from ANY guild that feels like rolling Alliance on a PvP server. People who are wanting to transfer are welcome too. We invite most SA applications and you're then put on a trial basis for a short while (just in case ;)).

*edit:
Not trying to steal any thunder MissM, but i am sure Braaivleis has enough SA players. We only have about 25/30 "whistling:

Anyone jamming Horde on Laughing Skull? I rerolled on there.

I still haven't bothered exploring any new content on my rogue. My druid's also sat on lvl75 for over a week now. I just couldn't be bothered.

I bought me Cataclysm , stopped playing a few months ago ,
I hope they fixed the role for rogues in instances.
We used to have function , stunning / unlocking / removing traps ..
now its all a mindless blaze to see who gets the most DPS and we rarely every do..
Also blizzard wants all rogues to spec dagger but they gave u a sword for batterdhilt ? whats that about ?

Heres hoping that they give us some utility in the game again.
The last time rogues were NEEDED was BWL with traps that needed removing...
Thats pre TBC :(

Hmmmm, considering getting Cataclysm. Bought WoW a few years back and played for a couple of months, but never really got into it. All the okes I was playing with were much higher level than me, and it ended up sucking quite a bit - had to solo and group with complete randoms to get stuff done :/

Maybe it'll be better with Cataclysm though.

Hey folks, I just registered on mygaming forums today after a fair bit of lurking.

I play wow fairly religiously and have been since pre-bc. I am wondering if there are any other members on here who play on Silvermoon EU servers?

I'm always on the looking for new people to talk to and interact with on wow, and I'm a fairly knowledgeable person and experienced wow player (played since pre-bc, tried 'hardcore' of pretty much all aspects of wow, attained the old gold cap of 214k gold, moderate for a fairly big wow forum, interact within many other smaller wow forums, etc) so I'm sure I would be an interesting person to talk to too.

(Yeah sorry, just reading that last paragraph over, I made it sound a bit like an e-dating profile introduction hahaha)

Feel free to send me a PM :)
