Would you pay a monthly subscription to play StarCraft 2?

I wouldn't play a monthly subscription to play any game ... (except if they make a Witcher MMO, then I'd gladly pay every month :p)

This has been coming a long way. Right in the beginning they stated that Battle.net 2 was going to be a monthly subscription based service, that's why I was actually curious when they never mentioned it again when everyone talked about SC2.

But, just like other great games like WoW, if it requires a monthly subscription, I'll simply pass on it. NO game can justify a monthly running cost IMO. I already pay out of my ears for my ADSL Line, CAP and other things like DSTV. Games are NOT worth an EXTRA cost per month in this country.

even though it won't be happening here yet, just one more reason NOT to buy this game

I have a feeling the fast majority of people simply won't do it. Can you imagine all games were suddenly like this? That means each time you buy a game you also have to budget for the monthly subscription? At the end of the day you'll have to sell your car because you accidentally bought too many games without thinking. I know it's a stretch, but that's what it boils down to.

Luckily I have such a MASSIVE backlog of games at the moment that even if they implemented this right now, I'll be gaming happily for years to come, and if the system hasn't died a horrible death by then and it's still the new requirement, I'll stop gaming. THERE, I said it.

Looks like Blizzard isn't raking in enough cash from WoW. I'd never pay monthly for an RTS game, no matter how good Battle.net might be.

welcome to piracy.

sadly yes. stuff like this will drive piracy to insane heights and add to that the coders will just mod in lan support essentially making all their hard work nulled and voided

That was actually a rumor, Blizzard confirmed (a year ago I think now) that Battle.net 2 would be free forever for everyone who payed the once off purchase fee.

With Battle.net we're definitely looking at possible different features that we might be able to do for additional money. We're not talking about Hellgate or anything like that. We're not going to tack things on. I think World of Warcraft is a great example to look at. We charge people if they want to switch servers or if they want name changes, things that aren't core to the game experience, they're really just optional things that some people want. It takes us some development work to do it, so it makes sense to charge for it. We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra.

The fact that they confirmed this is what made my jaw drop when I saw this news article. It may be just Russia, but they are effectively retracting an official public statement, unless they tack on the end an ", except in Russia". TBH, this is more shocking to me than the MW2 dedi server fiasco. I'm interested to see if they carry this through in any other regions.

Unless of course you wanted to play ALL single player campaigns, then you'd have to pay 3x more.

I told ya'll, ActiBlizz is evil and Kotnick is the Devil... next thing you know your signing on the dotted line with your own blood to play their next game....
