Would you quit a game for moral reasons?

It would depend. Something slightly distasteful is fine but going to extremes of say harming children or women or real extremes would see me avoiding the game altogether or would see me stop playing if I didn't know what to expect before I bought the game

Pretty much agree, add animal cruelty to the mix and it's a miss for me.
Unless it's part of the theme of the game.

Zombies tearing woman and her baby a new one: Pass.
Thug doing the same in some random part of action/adventure series: Fail

I don't think I would... It's a game.

I love animals and completely hate animal cruelty but I still played and enjoyed a game like Postal 2 where you could put cats on the end of a shotgun, pee on people, pour gasoline on them and light it, etc...

I know it's a game, not real, and as long as the line between real and imaginary is not blurred/crossed, then I'm up for any game.

jip agreed. it is a game after all. i had no problem in GTA mowing people down with a car or bashing them with a baseball bat, but i would never do that in real life obviously cause i know the difference.

I've never quit a game because it offended me or anything I believe in.
I have however stopped playing games like Manhunt, I felt they tried to be as over the top as possible when killing pixels and it kinda put me off.

I have never stopped playing a game or walked out of a movie because it offended me (I once walked out of "Dr T and the Woman", but that was because it was crap, not offensive).
I want to point out also that there is a difference between "shock" and "offensive" although they are related. Bioshock shocked me by being able to harvest the little sisters, but I was not offended. Call of Duty (forgot which one, they all start to flow together eventually) shocked me when the airport level happened, but I was not offended.
So what would offend me? I have no idea, probably something religious. But I am sure that everybody has something where they will draw the line and say: "No way. That's too much". If not, then there may be something wrong with you.

Well honestly speaking i'm against all of this animal cruelty & mocking of various religions but when it comes to gaming i'm game, gaming is just letting our imaginations go wild, its got nothing to do with religious & moral values, people tend to imply some sort of mockery into, i will never stop playing games coz someone thinks they oppose their moral & religious values something like that, i tend not apply gaming to reality, just an object of my imagination, MKAY!, ;)

I'll stop playing a game if they swear too much. I don't normally mind swearing, but if it starts feeling like they are forcing it in there, it starts getting irritating. The choice of words also plays a factor of how much I'm willing to endure.

Other than that, I think the only games I've really not been comfortable with was Jericho and Alone in the Dark 5, although with AITD, not enough to stop playing. Personally I prefer that if they want to involve religion, that they do everything completely fictional like with Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Skyrim, etc.

I think the only games I've stopped playing due to this was Jericho which did not appeal to me at all. Also Spec Ops:The Line due to the swearing... well, that and because I got stuck in one place and can't continue without dying... might be a bit more of the latter.

Oooh this is a good topic.

Personally, I've never bought a game that directly intends to offend my religion (Christianity). That's why I've never played any of the Diablo games or the "Doom" series. Any game depicting satanic rituals, symbols etc. is a no-go for me, although I do look at the context of such content - but games like Doom and Diablo are "too much" if you get my point. Also, I've stopped playing Dota a couple of months ago because I realized how toxic the game's community was for me and how much of my time it consumed for little to no satisfaction.

I believe that playing games is supposed to be entertaining and enrich your life somehow - so Dota really didn't fit the profile. I've actually never looked back and don't miss Dota for a second. In fact, I've been able to catch up on a boat load of backlogged games and I've rediscovered why I like gaming.

Unless the game was directly (intentionally) insulting religious or moral grounds, I cannot see a reason to quit a game.

I find it always surprising the outcry afterwards on I didn't know it was such and such a game. I know I'm getting, I don't just buy blindly...

The only game I ever stopped playing was Devil May Cry 3. It was a shame because I was really enjoying it but I think it was a bit over board on the demonic content. It had no balance, I dont know if it was a more a moral choice or more "Im over it" but I was really cravin g to be an Angel tearing things up instead of a demon.

Actually playing an Angel for a change could be cool, Darksiders came fairly close.

That's true, and any consumer should do their homework before buying anything. But, to make use of a recent example, the religiously-offensive content in Bioshock Infinity was a bit uncalled for. Not a lot of people have time to monitor and read everything about every game coming out before hand. So for a normal person who liked Bioshock 1 and Bioshock 2 that had nothing to do with religion, you'd forgive such a person from seeing the "new" Bioshock and just buying it immediately - and to then be offended by what followed.

That said, due to the nature of what people deem "offensive" and "non-offensive" I do extensive homework before the time. In a World where moral values and integrity are dropping like flies on a daily basis, it's no surprise that more and more things are being viewed as "non-offensive". Fortunately I don't subscribe to such a flawed world-view and I laugh at those who do - regularly.

Dota on the other hand was a game that I loved in the beginning, and I got quite good at it. But I ultimately realized that it was absolutely terrible for my well-being, both mentally and physically. I don't know of any other game that's ever had such a negative turn out in my life. Actually, now that I think of it, most games that have some form of multiplayer turn out to be rather hit/miss. Maybe I just don't like playing with other people? Or maybe I just don't like other people, period :)

True, I was speaking casually... as in general. I had go and look up what the offence was on bioshock as I didn't pay it any attention earlier. However I would have to play it to see it in context to form a proper opinion.

I do believe that sometimes one needs to get a little offended to rattle that cage and reset screws properly. Obviously I'm not saying go forth and play filth... if you get what I mean.

So you don't mind violently killing hundreds of people?

I stopped playing Alan Wake because the character you portray was being a dick to his wife. Pass.

I have no issue with game violence of most natures, but any element involving rape or prolonged/unnecessary abuse is not for me.
