I'm a WUG member in Pta. AFAIK there are still a good number of people in PtaWUG that game, CSS, HoN I think.
 
Wait a minute... after figuring it out in my head I still asked what it is? Please don't tell anyone I'm supposed to look after our company's servers for a month... :p
 
I'd also like to know what sort of speeds people get on a WUG with regard to file sharing. I am interested in joining the WUG community (CTWUG) but getting signal would require me to get a 30dbi 5GHz dish :/

I don't have any WUG experience myself, but from what I can tell it ranges from dial-up to 1MB/s...depends on the quality of the links.
 
Wanted to join Jawug for gaming alone, but ADSL has kind of killed that interest in me.
A friend of mine joined, but sold his equipment after a few weeks. The stability of his geo node didn't work in his favor.
 
I'm moving to Pta next year, whats the WUG like there? Is it really worth it when you can just get uncapped ADSL? Obviously after about 6 months of ADSL renting you'll probably be paying more than your setup cost to get you onto the WUG but is this really not just a thing of the past now?
 
I have heard odds and ends about this WUG, any info or direction where to sign up or what is involved? Sounds interesting.
 
WUG is still cool in my opinion.

Speeds are extremely variable. Depends on signal quality and strength. Depends on where/who you are downloading from. Depends on signal quality between highsites.

Yes, uncapped is cool, but often you find stuff on WUG that you don' on net. Speeds can be better sometimes. Also, WUG is a once off fee for equipment. In Pta anyway. Jhb I think has a tiny annual fee.

PTAWUG is one of the, if not the biggest WUG in SA.

30DBi grid is not recommended unless absolutely critical. I have a link from Pta East to Pta N (27km) on only a normal 27DBi grid. a 27DBi grid is our standard antenna for users, but you can go smaller or bigger if needs be. Just remember, it's a bitch trying to align the 31DBi antennas.

I'm on the CTWUG. I get around 1mb/s Download speed. I still have my 384k uncapped inet for all the other stuff I need/want + for online gaming etc.
