XBOX 360 Controller - Can you repair it?

So I bought this one XBOX 360 controller from the catsdigital sale this weekend and realised, when I got home, that the green (A) button works, but doesn't feel nice and "clicky" like the rest. It just feels like someone pressed the life out of the poor thing. Do you know of anyone that can repair it? Maybe refurbish it a bit?

Looks like I'm answering my own thread :)

Apparently you CAN repair your controller if it's not too badly broken. You do however need a security bit set. I'll go to builders this afternoon to see if I can get a set like that, it's apparently fairly common.

Wowsers. Okay so builders does stock a security bit set but the pieces included in the set are nowhere near small enough for the bits used on the XBOX controller's casing. You need a T8 Torq Security driver. The closes I could find was a T10....no good.

I ordered this set from Amazon UK for R250 plus delivery:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294

So now I'll be geared for any little funny bit that's thrown my way in the future :)

Bought on a clearance sale dude...I doubt they'll exchange it, plus I'm going to use this as a training exercise. I like trying to do things myself :)

*sigh* haha, this reminds me of all the times where I thought I was saving a bit of money on something but it spawns a whole new money wasting mission trying to fix it :)

So I guess you'll be offering Xbox controller repairs soon :)

That's good to know... :p
I have the same problem with my right bumper button

Likewise for my housemate. The RB button is permanently stuck in. We've tried the basic key tools, like Neo, but no luck. :)

Thanks for the info though Neo. Please post if you get it sorted out.

Will do guys! Waiting for the stuff to come across from the UK and then I'll be playing surgeon with my controller :D

No thanks. I'm not touching other people's consoles. I have enough trouble building PC's for other people and that's something I can do blindfolded. I'll keep my console repairing experiments to myself, but I'll gladly share the knowledge that I find :)

***Update***

I received my Shinobi console repair kit today. It comes with everything you'd possibly need to fix anything related to a console. I opened up my XBOX 360 controller in 2 minutes, the button "popped" back into place and it solved my problem :)

There's actually a Simpler and cheaper method of doing this repair.
Take a normal Torx 10 Driver, available to purchase for around R 20 at most Pick and Pay Hypermarkets, then use a small ( 2mm ) flat screwdriver.
The reason a normal Torx driver does not work is due to the security pin in the middle of the bolts on the controller.
To do this the El Cheapo way, take the flat head screwdriver and wedge it into the bolt against the security pin, then apply pressure outwards.
Those little pins simply snap off.
Then use the normal Torx driver to remove the bolt

Now the contact part of the controller, the little rubber pads that sit between the button and the controller board, either take them out and clean them properly, to see if this fixes the response issue, or order n replacement set, I think Zaps has them as an import item.

Note** Breaking off the pins in no way damages the bolt itself and literally only serves to remove the 1mm pin from the bolt allowing a normal store bought Torx driver to work.

Or you could just do it properly with the right tools lol. Oh and as far as I know it's a number 8 Torx driver...which is not that common to find, well, not when I went looking for it.

But still, good info for those not interested in all the proper tools :D

Yeah, you're right, I can never remember which one is for opening controllers and which one is for opening the console :)
