Xbox 360 VS PS3

You can't use Halo 3 as an example to prove your point, as it is an extreme example. One needs to look at things in context, and in this case Halo 3, as I said, is an extreme example of hype. If the simple answer to games selling so well is hype, why aren't Sony hyping their games much more? It would be a logical step, but clearly it's not the right step, as selling games simply isn't that easy. How have Microsoft managed to put together a list of 53 games that have sold over a million copies via pure hype and Sony only 19? Hype is clearly not the defining factor in Xbox games selling so well.

Secondly, with regards to the Wii - it's aimed at the casual gamer market. The Xbox and PS3 are aimed at more hardcore gamers. Simply have a look at the game libraries and you'll see that. The millions of people who buy Wii games most likely have no interest in the PS3 and Xbox libraries and vice versa. You, clearly, aren't a Wii fan, but you can't use your opinion on the Wii to summarise its library of games as "terrible," just because you don't like said games. Millions of people do!

Halo 3 is one example and Gears 2 is another.
M$ pawns Sony when it comes to marketing their console and their games whereas Sony has just become complacent and relied on the Playstation name alone. Barring that, the 53 that have sold million, how many are exclusives and how many multi-plats? How many of those have general favourable reviews? The 360's bigger games library higher install base works in its favour not to mention the 2 and a half year head start and the shaky launch that the PS3 had.

As for the Wii, there are some good games on it but as we see they aren't really successful. Yes everyone knows its for the casual market but using sales in argument would have to include the Wii as it is 7th generation console regardless of what we all might think

Good to see that this thread has become interesting again.

Solidus, what do you mean when you say that the good Wii games aren't really successful? Are you saying that they don't sell well?

What does it mean to say that a console us seventh generation? Is there not more to the evolution of consoles than just pretty graphics.Where to after photorealism has been achieved?

Face the facts, Ps3 sells badly and has a horrible Economic Structure, but it is new and has unwitnessed potential for gaming, so far
While Xbox is really at it's tip top level of gaming potential and is going to take a nose dive into economic failness due to the fact that it's going to eventually lose to ps3
So, Rather go for the ps3 because it is more new :)

Yup the good games like Madworld don't really fair well on the Wii.
I don't see the upcoming The Conduit selling well on it either, if it aint Mario or Zelda it tends not to do so well. The consoles released from the year 2005 onwards are considered the 7th generation of consoles and right now we have the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Sony pawned Sega when they overhyped the ps2, looking at things its clear to see that the ps2 wasnt as advanced as sony overhyped it to be, remember alot of dreamcast killer games were cancelled due to sony hype. Half life, proppeller arena etc. Having an early launch and bigger library does not = success as we have seen with the dreamcast.

The reality is alot of people has stopped swallowing the lies that sony has fed them over the years and thats one of the reasons why the xbox is so successful, the original xbox could have easily won the console war but due to exclusivity deals sony had with most devs and ms only starting in the console industry alot of people were scepticle, but not anymore as we can see

Im so proud of all of you..hehe. My little fighters going at it..lol!!
Well im not getting involved cause I love both my consoles and that won't be changing any time soon!!

In M$ case it does, with the PS2 Sony at least had some good games at launch. Whereas the PS3 had little games at the start and most not even system sellers. The 360 just had momentum going and M$ knew this hence the heavy marketing behind their new console. You said it yourself hyping up PS2 killed the Dreamcast and M$ took a lesson from that. They hit hard and fast not giving a Sony chance, they done what Sony done with Nintendo when the PSX hit stole exclusives from it like Final Fantasy.

What im saying is ms didnt overhype the specs of the 360 like sony did with the ps3 (they claimed the ps3 was the second coming, the same way they did with the ps2) they claimed the ps2 was a hundred times faster than the Dreamcast and it wasnt ! the same with the ps3 they claimed it was going to be so much faster than anything else and yet the 360 and the ps3 is neck and neck graphically, the same way the dreamcast was neck and neck with the ps2

Ah yes in that aspect you are correct. Then again if M$ overhyped their console specs they'd be laughed at cause of the RROD debacle :D
At least they not using cheap Chana parts in their consoles now

You've still only managed to mention two games that are apparently overhyped. Can you remember the huuuuge hype around Killzone 2 and how it was slated as the PS3's saviour etc? To be completely and utterly honest I heard more about Killzone prior to release than I did of Halo, yet it's sales haven't even touched that of what we were lead to believe they would. I do agree that Sony's marketing department needs a serious wake-up call, but that is all part of the package and Microsoft are clearly attracting developers to their platform because they've proven that they are willing to market their games and as a result they sell well. Everyone wins.

Now with regards to the 50+ games that have sold over a million, I really am not going through the list one by one but why is it an issue if a game is not an exclusive? Surely the fact that people are choosing the 360 version over the PS3 version on multiplat games is therefore even more worrying? I'll give you the fact that the 360 had a good headstart, but if anyone had a shaky start it was the 360 because of trying to get that headstart. RROD anyone? Yet despite that the console is still outselling the PS3 worldwide and has owned it in the software sales department.

And in conclusion...back to the Wii, yes it is a console from this generation but I still don't think it can be compared to the 360 and PS3. It's aimed at a completely different market despite it being a 7th gen console. It's like the difference between using a laptop and a netbook. Both are current-gen systems, but they're aimed at different markets. The laptops in question would be the 360 and PS3, whilst the less feature-rich netbooks would be the Wii. Different markets, different features.

I used to be a huge Sony fan. I was so stoked for the PS3 and planned on getting one come hell or high water, but they've really disappointed me this generation. They underestimated both the Xbox and the Wii and now they're scrambling to play catch-up.

Seriously people, this thread never going to end. Anyone watch the high resolution of the CryEngine 3 the one where xbox and ps3 show the differnces, around 1:21 and 1:25 of the video where the Xbox and PS3 are showing the same landscaping, you can see the difference in detail between the two the Xbox colours are faded and and details more smudged, where as the PS3 more detailed and colours are defined.

Dont take my word for it watch it and pay attension, i only noticed it coz it was the same screen shot more or less, side by side i bet you could play pot the quality diference between the two images.

I am only making a fact based piont, but lets see how i am going to get gunned.

I saw the Video and you right p3 did look a bit better. But this could just be a tech demo issue. If ps3 always lagged in the pictures quality how can it be so much better now... Or did it take Sony about 3 years to get their own consoles working like it should...

Lets see, my overhype reference was merely just an example as to how it was hyped yet they were of poorer quality than the predecessors. Who hyped it? M$ did. As far as KZ2 goes mainly internet hype and practically ZERO publicity, it was hyped and lived up to the hype in terms of quality, sales is another story and it was fanbois mainly claiming it was the 2nd coming of christ and we all know the higher price of the PS3 doesn't help it. Its not like Gears 2 where people found so many problems and it got such great reviews with a completely broken onlione play.

RROD hardly slowed the 360 down it just meant more units to sell for them plus they extended warranties on all models prone to RROD which cost them but wasnt really a major factor.
Forgot another major reason the software sales are more on the 360, the 360's cheap price point! Of course it will sell more why pay $399 to play Resident Evil 5 where I can pay $199 for entry level 360, my argument revolves around quality content and not just mere sales figures, thats why I asked you to list EXCLUSIVE titles. Sony had a dismal start but it seems they are making up for it with real quality titles and getting their act together.

As for thw Wii, look I'm sicking of bringing it up now, yes its aimed at a different target market but still its top of all sale results and my argument is if its sales you're after then don't count out the Wii.

We'll have to wait for E3 to see what the 360 has up its sleeves but right now its not having a good 2009

The new Tekken is launching on x360 later this year...How did that happen...The ps3's biggest fighting title...Mmmmmm

LOL @ 33 million copies sold thats utterly misleading.

As for Tekken moving over to multi-plat Sony's complacency again comes in to play.
They just expected it to remain exclusive on the PS3 since they provided the hardware for the Arcade version.

Good luck to 360 players playing Tekken with that horrible D-pad on the 360 controller it'll pose a serious disadvantage. Tekken works on precision directions and not so much grinding.

I don't know hey, I think it'll rock on the 360.
Im a huge Tekken fan, I have been all my life.

Visually the same yes they will rock no doubt, but playability it won't be on par.
Look at Street Fighter IV it even scored one higher on metacritic simply cause the 360 controller isn't great for fighters. I know of lots who chose the PS3 version simply cause of the controller
