Xbox console differences?

Hi guys, and gals ;)

Just wanted to know what the disadvantages are over having the cheapest Xbox (ie, without the massive hardrives) vs the top of the range console.

I have my own PC so I don't need to store things on an Xbox. Are there any other disadvantages other than this?
 
If you don't mind the lack of hard drive space, then you're all set getting the Arcade. It doesn't come with an HDMI cable, but it does have an HDMI port, so you can purchase a cable separately should you wish to make use of said feature.

Other than that, there's nothing major that's different :)
 
Jip the HDD is a bit of a waste actually as i dont save anything but my saved game files on there so i dont really utilise it that much...
 
HD resolution (if you're playing on a normal TV this is pretty useless), but if you're playing on an HDMI-capable LCD TV, for example, you'll want to use it.
 
I have an arcade and quite frankly I think it offers by far the best value over the Pro.

However, some games (Fallout 3, GTAIV) do have some hefty DLC packs which make use of the Pro's extra HardDrive space, so if you think that that that is an avenue that you would like to explore then you are better off with the pro.

Unless anyone knows ok any alternative ways to store DLC?

And as for the HDMI cable, they can be brought for R60 from Reggies so its hardly a deal breaker.
 
Yep. Well I got my first one there about 6 months ago when I heard they had them for R60. That got stolen and when I went back they didnt have stock. Still managed to find one for R110 at ToysRus.
 
Doesn't the ability to install games on the hard drive which was introduced with the new system software give a performance boost?
 
A minor boost in loading times, but otherwise nothing major warranting the purchase of a more expensive version of the console.

Lydon is right not really, cause you still need the game to load up just loading times are a TINY bit faster, better to keep it like it was and dont install it to HD, only if ur cd is getting scratched then do it.
 
Interesting to hear that. A friend of mine was adamant that his games ran better once he had installed them to the hard drive.
 
Well, they technically do run better, but it's nothing extremely amazing. As I said, just improved load times and less noise :)
 
thanks for the response guys. Anyone know where I can get the arcade version? Look and listen don't seem to have it and neither does Incredible Corruption.
 
If you live in the Cape, you can pick it up from www.take2.co.za's distributors near Milnerton. You could also get a delivery but that'd be expensive.

Otherwise check out Game, Toys R Us, Musica etc.
