XBOX Live Dasboard update

So I got home today and switched on my XBOX for some after-work enjoyment, only to find that the time has come again for a new dashboard update. I'm not sure if I've been out of the loop for a while but was not expecting it. Just want to know if anyone else has had to update as well? If so, does anyone know the details of what exactly it is for; fixes/upgrades?

This has been coming for quite a while, as far as i know its increasing the storage capacity of the dvds from about 7 gigs to 8. No issues, updated it last night. I think Microsoft have said they will replace your xbox if the update breaks it? Could be wrong.

Applied the update and my console seems no different than before. No errorrs/discs that don't work. If I recall correctly it was the previous dashboard update that caused disc-read errors on some consoles and that Microsoft would replace any of them affected by that update.

mine failed 3 times but all is fine and dandy today :) i can finally download D&D Daggerdale for kicks :)

Hmmm i just recently got an Xbox again after a 2 year lay off. So im tentative. Ill give it a try but if they fridge is off in the morning and the milk is warm dont ask why.

Okay. I've got problems now and it seems that lots of people are having this problem now after looking at the XBox forums.

I can't connect to Live. The XBox complains that it isn't assigned an IP address by my router. The stupid thing though is that I have 3 computers that all connect fine. I restarted the Xbox and the router and nothing works. :(

Going through the forums looking for a solution at the moment.

In regards to the issue above, manually assign an IP to the 360 ?
You can do that my entering manual setup it solves the error you mentioned

Nope, no luck Xero. It just leaves to different errors. From what I've read so far it looks like some people who used to be able to connect wirelessly can now only connect with a cable and vice versa.

I'm going to stop trying to fix it now since this is not the way that I wanted this day to go. Will try again later.

If I change my router to only use Wireless G instead of N then the XBox can connect. So now I've got a slower network but at least it works! Going to contact those Microsoft bastards now. Lots of of people is having this same problem.

also had the connection problem a while back. The problems you're having sounds exactly like what happened to me. Got it working after troubleshooting for 2 days and still don't know how I fixed it. I think I reset everything and just did the network setup from the start again.
