Xbox Live Gold Question

My xbox live gamertag is an SA one.

If I buy a 12 month xbox live gold subscription does it matter what region I buy it for?
Or are all Xbox Live Gold subscriptions Worldwide?
Or...does it work that when you buy a Worldwide subscription it has the ability to work with any region but when u activate it, it becomes the region that your gamertag is?

The reason I ask is because either i need to pay R265 for a 'SA' subscription from TakeALot or R375 for a 'Worldwide' subscription from www.mspoints.co.za.

Also, if i buy an SA subscription does that mean I can't play online against anyone from another region or can any region play with any region? Do most MyGaming forumites, who play on xbox live, have an SA or a UK subscription?

UPDATE: I emailed TakeALot and they confirmed that it is a Worldwide Subscription and not an 'SA' Subscription. The product page on their website has been updated with the "SA" being removed.

In terms of the xbox live gold subscription, I would email takealot and just confirm with them. I've only seen "worldwide" gold subscriptions, I assume they all are worldwide, I might be wrong.

You can play against anyone in any region, only difference will be the amount of content available like arcade games, demos etc.

I have a UK subscription purely because there was no local one available when I join XBL.

i have a SA account and i play against americans and English and french and all those other people who speak funky languages... so yes... it is worldwide... when u join a game and u have horrible lag itz because u connecting to a faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa away game.. :) so yes.. when getting live, u dont only pay for ur local area.. it's the whole live network with lots of countries.. :) (hope that helps)

@remnant, You can use either an SA or UK subscription on your SA account. The same applies for the UK accounts, you can use a UK or SA subscription:)

And world wide does mean world wide, they work on all accounts.

The link you posted from takealot did say SA on the top. ''Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold Card (SA) 50% Off Special Offer''

You should be good to go since you have an SA account.

Oh and you can play with people from anywhere else in the world.

As far as I can remember - Xbox Live Gold Membership is limited to the region it is sold in or sold for so if you have a US account then you can only buy US Membership

OP has been updated.

I have the SA subscription. I have no problems with it in the slightest, just not as much content but its getting there.

I mostly play against Americans on live though, very little lag in most games and I have a real slow connection.

Thanks for the update, have you decided what region you are going to activate your account in?

My Gamertag is South African so I'll activate the subscription with it.

I want to support the SA Xbox Live as I feel it's quite hypocritical for us, as South Africans, to complain that our version of Xbox Live Marketplace has so much less content but then we don't try and make a change and say "We'll just wait till it gets better and then we'll be a part of it". I would ask those South Africans to please tell me how it's going to get better without numbers of SA Xbox Live Gamertags/subscriptions increasing.

I have a 384kbps line and I've also noticed that the lag isn't fatal most of the time. But it does vary per game (COD4 is never a problem while Street Fighter IV is unplayable).

A Sa suscription automatically becomes a "Worldwide subscription". Coming from the fact that we don't have as much content as Us/Japan.
