HELP!!! XBox Live thru my laptop

I spent the wee hours of last night pulling out my hair trying to hook up my XB360 to XBL using my laptop.
I Googled a few methods but nothing is working.
Tried sharing a connection, bridging, manual config... NOTHING!
someone PLEASE help me.

Ok, I've got a CellC Whoosh-Stick... when i connect, it comes up as 'Local Area Connection 14' (.... ya, i dunno wtf, but it's consistent)
Then I hook up an ethernet cable from the laptop to the XB360 and that comes up as 'Local Area Connection 10' (LAC10 from now on)

First thing i tried was bridging the connection. That didn't work at all.

Next i tried manually configuring the IP of LAC10 and the XB360
So, say the laptop was 10.0.0.1, then i made the XB360 10.0.0.2
Tested the connection and at least it got from the XB360 to the laptop, but then failed to connect to the internet (...but that's a bit obvious since it wouldnt have known how)

Ok, then i went to LAC14 (i.e. the Whoosh Stick) and configured it to share the connection with LAC10. LAC10 automatically takes on an IP (192.168.0.1)
So i manually configured the XB360 to have IP 192.168.0.2
Still didint work .. again, it show that the connection from the XB360 to the laptop works, ut the connection to the internet fails.
All this while, my connection to the internet on LAC14 is fine.

So i gave up at 02:00

And now i have no idea where to go from here.

Please help!!!

I'm assuming you're running Windows 7?

Either way, go to properties on your LAC14 (the CellC dongle) and go through to the sharing tab...
You need to tick the 'allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection' box. (Other versions of windows will have a similar box - I can't tell you the wording for those) You should be able to specify which adapter your 'home' network is - choose LAC10 for that.

It might give you a bit of a dialog about changing IPs on LAC10 - just accept any changes it suggests.

The LAC10 should be set to 192.168.0.1 or similar, and it'll provide DHCP to the X360. So set the X360 to 'automatically configure' IP.

That should get you up and running - the XBOX should now see the computer as a gateway and be online!

As a result, I think my advice above was just a waste of my own time. doh.

hehehe ... i appreciate you taking the time nonetheless.
Someone suggested using 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 as my DNS (with everything else as you've recommended), but i tried it last night and it still failed.

What port does the console try to communicate on?
Cos I'm using a company laptop... maybe the port is blocked?
 
I spent some time trying to get my friend's xbox to connect to xbl though internet connection sharing on his laptop as well. Just with a Vodacom modem. I've got it to work before (might have been on XP then), but it just wouldn't this time. I wonder if it's all the extra homegroup stuff in Windows 7 or something that's killing it
 
is it possible to play on xbox live by somehow running it through the data package(s) on a cellphone connected to a pc/laptop? :O
 
Ugh...this is a painful one.

I also have a Cell C Whoooosh (ja whatever, more like douche).
The way that you describe at the top, never worked for me. So much so that I had to go purchase a small ethernet switch with a couple of network cables. Eventually, by adding both devices to the homegroup and sharing the internet connection, (I had to run some funny Windows Powershell script, which I can provide to you on request, this basically changes the 'Unknown' network location to a 'Home' network location, you WILL encounter this) I got the connection up and running. The IP addresses were also set up to be automatically allocated.

Then came the tricky part...an update to the Xbox 360 software was required, which I performed. This worked very well...for one night.

This being connected to my laptop, I went to work the next day and used the laptop there. Somehow, after that day, my Xbox refuses to go online at ALL. I have tried it on different networks now and nothing seems to work. Can't find anything to use on Google either...I am now considering getting a new Xbox just for this reason.
 
Windows xp was much friendlier with ICS.. Still havent managed to do this myself.. It probably the pc and not the xbox dude coz the minute u put an ethernet cable into the console then live is operating perfectly

Yeah i use a Netgear 3G router, with the Cell C Dongle thing. It works, its simple and easy. but i'm now replacing it with a ADSL line since, well f*ck cell c. It worked well for the 1st few months. Now online gaming, pretty much useless, sometimes works perfectly, most of the time it doesn't. There tech support is TERRIBLE. You pretty much have to contact them on twitter else they just ignore your e-mails, if you phone someone, you generally get someone whose advice is ,... have you restarted your computer type advice.

Yeah their service is terrible. They double billed me and took 3 months to respond to it, and it still has not been resolved. And the internet was crap for a while...

But now, I am really happy with it. As long as they don't double bill me again, I'll stay with them. I get crazy speeds with the dongle nowadays.
