Xbox One has overheating prevention

Kind of sounds like you will be playing a game and the performance will drop and you won't know why.... and then it switches itself off.

I think a warning will pop up, and if you ignore it, then it'll slowly slow down and either quite to dashboard or start shutting off...

It won't lag the game before that message pops up, also this was designed to deal with idiots leaving books or clothes on the xb1 instead of using it in a air-free-flowing area...

Yeah exactly that.

Sounds like their design is inadequate and that it might overheat under certain conditions and now they have implemented some safety checks to prevent it from damaging hardware instead of fixing the root cause of the problem.

Yeah, a warning, in text on the screen. Maybe some technical details about why your getting the warning and what software you were running. Stop the game from running, in because we dialed back the power. Some text to explain how this is happening. We should probably dump a log file to make sure it's not the game causing the overheat. Post it to the screen? Oh, why not!

And maybe we can get this on a nice high contrast background, say white text on a, I dunno, blue background.

I saw what you did there. And I liked it.

Doubt it will be intrusive to gameplay, probably just a falesafe in extreme conditions and for economic power consumption when demands on the hardware is quite low.
Evidently some Sony fanboys could do with a overheating prevention feature...

I think its a neat feature they're supporting. Sony hasn't said anything about their thermal management on the PS4, while Microsoft has been openly frank about their internal hardware. I don't think they'll heavily throttle and impact game performance either, it could just come as a warning that the system is close to overheating and needs a cool down.

And I don't see this happening in locations with average temperatures, but in locations with abnormally high ambient temps. Like Saudi Arabia, or Asia. Or Kimberley.

Do you not remember the xbox 360s issues? No warning, just broke from overheating. Nothing to do with idiots leaving towels on the xbox, but rather bad design on Microsofts part.

READ: Direct quote from article:

“We had a little less flexibility with the 360. So basically, if we couldn’t dissipate the heat, there wasn’t a whole lot of leverage we could pull to keep the heat from being generated, so we had a limited amount of time before it just shut down.

“Xbox One can actually dial it back to a lower power state, so low in fact that it can [operate] in a mode that uses virtually no air flow.”

I did read, but you telling me MS would have said before the release of the 360, we have overheating problems because the 360 isn't flexible enough? They released the 360 thinking it wouldn't overheat, and it did. Why you so eager to believe what ever they say before the product is even released?

perhaps the first few patches after the Xbone launches will be to fix their overheating system.... 1st few fools to buy it will hopefully get free replacements :)
