Xbox One or PS4

So after watching the announcement last night, I wasn't left overly enthusiastic about the Xbox One or the PS4. The first couple of minutes were cool showing the new Amp like look of it (which I like the elegant look) but it looks pretty big >.< The controller looks pretty good and at least they sorted out the D-Pad.

After that was when it went a lil' downhill for me, the voice control and gestures have definitely been improved a heck load but I was never a fan of them to begin with. I'm more than happy with just a controller in hand, navigating the menu. The NFL Fantasy league and TV mode also aren't really applicable to us here so that's also not too interesting :) Then the rest showing lil' snippets of games I was only interested in that 1 called Quantum something :)

So what were your guys thoughts on the new Xbox?

Edit: Added a poll to see where people are leaning now that both have been announced :)

I actually really like the look of the console. It fits with the whole look of everything else in the TV cabinet.
I honestly dont care for talking to my console or waving my hands around controlling things but I appreciate the technology.

I can see quite a bit going wrong there like my wife asking me to whats on tv later in the middle of a boss fight and the xbox changes to TV straight away. not cool man!:D

Also was the much talked about always online thing mentioned?

I was never planning on getting one, and nothing was said to convince me otherwise. The big gaming companies seem to have forgotten the first rule of business - listen to what your customers want.

Oh and that Kinect 2? It needs to always be plugged in for the One to function even with non-Kinect stuff, as I predicted. An always-connected camera that watches you and analyzes everything you say, while being connected to the internet and 300,000 dedicated servers.

Say what? :wtf:

They didn't even try to address any of the rumors that were flying around.

Ya, they left out a few key questions like Always Online, backwards compatibility etc. Overall I felt the whole presentation could have been shortened to like 10 minutes with the points that actually mattered. I mean having the EA guy come out didn't add any value, Forza they didn't show much, COD Reveal trailer didn't need to be an Xbox Reveal event imo.

So when it comes down to choosing between PS4 and Xbox One, I still can't make a proper decision since both sides still haven't shown enough to get my interest. Xbox One I like the interface and the fact it finally has a blu ray drive, PS4 I could care less about the ability to share my videos or having people watch me play :/

What would have made it attractive for you or would have convinced you to buy One?

I don't know hey. I was pretty amped for the snap-ins.
Maybe I would've had an easier time at Darksiders if I could snap in a browser to figure how I'm screwing this section up.

The controller looks great and the improves without redesigning.

I really want to see what Sony does at E3 though.
Current gen I backed Xbox and I actually enjoy my PS3 more now. I don't want to make the same mistake again.

Backwards compatibility, leaving the second hand gaming market be, allowing me to disable the kinect if I don't need it, not requiring a subscription for online play, etc.

Thanks appreciate your response. I sense that where you have thought about this, many will in droves buy the new console regardless, just to have the latest tech.

My impressions:

Like the look of it
Can't be bothered with the gesture interface thingy, but it nice that they've improved it.
Voice interface is nice....
Controller looks nice, but I still need to actually hold it in my hands
Lots of features that we will never be able to use in SA.
Very little shown of actual gameplay.

Overall impressive display. Just a shame that we won't be able to utilize half of the features.

Yeah, but I'm not a sheep :) The other thing that I would appreciated is a direct answer on whether or not a permanent internet connection will be required.

I have some concerns with the voice interface and how basic the commands are "Xbox on". I see that being said from time to time in conversations which could cause problems. Just imagine if your buddies want to prank you and they say xbox off just before you kill the final boss etc, or if your wife says "I want that Xbox off of the dining room table tonight!" Boom

Same, current Gen I've owned both Xbox 360 and PS3 and in the end I only kept my PS3 due to the better exclusives. It'll be interesting to see the planned exclusives for Xbox One. With the PS4 architecture being closer to that of a PC now, I'm hoping PS4 will also have an impressive line up ahead. In the end that's what matters to me. Things like COD I'll play on PC. Games like Uncharted/God of War/Last of Us/Infamous are what keep me interested in console.

Looks like a R8000 machine.

Launch price is also a big question for me. I'm guessing they'll announce it at E3 but that was 1 thing that made the Xbox 360 better at launch than PS3 and if it's sitting at R6000 - R8000, are people really going to adopt it?
