Xbox One: what about used games?

More of a selfish console, we have to pay for games borrowed, same as just buying a new one & just installing on my console & whoever wants to borrow a game should as well take the console with them too, ;)

If this is the case, then they just fooked over video rental stores who rent out console games...havent they?

“The bits are on your hard drive. At the end of the play session, when I take my disc home – or even if I leave it with you – if you want to continue to play that game [on your profile] then you have to pay for it. The bits are already on your hard drive, so it’s just a question of going to our [online] store and buying the game, and then it’s instantly available to play.

Seems like MS is desperate for revenue...the pirates will strike even harder this time, no one is going to pay extra for a second hand game he already bought.

Sounds like they are simply creating another Steam like store and service. I mean that's pretty much how Steam works.

The actual 2nd hand market is still very unclear with this, just like with Steam. However rentals shouldn't be a problem, it might end up being controlled entirely by Microsoft themselves instead of the local video shop. I'd imagine logging into Xbox Live and being able to "rent" a game for 24 hours or 48 hours at a reduced fee, kinda like renting movies on the iTunes store.

If i was Microsoft, and knowing where Apple is getting all their money from, i see no reason why Microsoft would want to "outsource" rentals and 2nd hand sales back to retailers. I would fully expect them to run their own "marketplace" where you can rent and sell your games, with Microsoft taking a 30% cut , just like Apple ;) . Essentially MS can potentially get a ton of money directly out of 2nd hand sales in their own store.

It just makes so much sense to do this, even though it will kill the entire retail sector that lives on rentals/2nd hand sales. So i wonder how MS will do this without angering too many people in one swoop, my guess is they will do both, their store AND some "voucher" mechanism for retailers and eventually we know what will happen....

Hold on a second, if I must pay a fee ( which will be small compared to the actual price of the game ) to play 2nd hand games, and I get full access to that game, then what stops me from lending the game I want from whoever owns it and get access to full content for just a fraction of the actual price? Or am I missing something here?

I think you are missing the part where they mentioned this "fee" will most likely be the full price of the game, not necessarily "less" than what was originally paid.

I can't see a big difference between the new game price and the "reconnection" 2nd hand price. EA still wants to fill their pockets and nobody wants a model where people buy a retail copy and then share the disk to get the discounted price (except gamers).
