XCom Enemy Unknown

Just finished the game last night.

I won't spoil too much, but I'll say that I was sad when my volunteer at the end well, you'll see

This was my "A" squad about 80% into the game.

Cool cool I normally go with 2 assault/support one sniper one heavy. Just have not played much waiting for a patch to patch some stuff.

I really love this game and I will definitely play it again, but I miss a few things from the original.

1) Being able to pick-up and drop items in game. It's not very nice if your only medic gets knocked down early game and you are unable to help him because he has the only medic pack!
2) Being able to research multiple stuff at the same time but with different scientists
3) Being able to use engineering idle time to make stuff to sell, just to earn some extra cash.
4) Having moment cost a certain amount of action points per square, so if you move far away, but your character spots an enemy he immediately stops and possibly has enough AP left to still attack or hide. It sucks having a guy move, and then at some point he saw something but where he stops he can't see it anymore :P

Ultimate wish list:
1) It would be absolutely epic if you could join up with a friend for a co-op game where you cover half of the world and he the other half. You could even join up in missions where they only allow each player to send in half a squad, or otherwise double the amount of monsters.

It would be epic if they add any of the stuff above in a next version, DLC, or expansion.

What I miss is the freedom the original game offered you. It didn't tell you 'you have to choose between these three missions.' If there were three abductions or crash sites, it was your choice if you wanted to go for all of them or just one. One would think the earth's largest defense initiative would have the initiative to keep more than one skyranger so they can deal with as many threats at once as possible, but clearly not.

I also miss multiple bases and having unit 'classes' determined by the equipment I assign to soldiers and not soldiers being limited to certain weapons based on an artificial class. :(

All in all, it's a pretty good game, but not one I'm ever going to play again. Compare that to the original X-com which I still play to this day.

Wyzak listed some changes above that I can agree with, but I think that the game they made today needed to be changed from the original. If it was simply a clone, I don't think it would have been as fun and I'm sure it would have felt dated. The game did so well because it plays well in a gaming culture that isn't particularly fond of turn-based strategy games. I think that the developers did a sterling job updating the game for a modern audience.

And I am just waiting for all the DLC before I play it again :D

I also miss some of those things, but I don't miss having to defend multiple bases (or even one base for that matter).

I will definitely be playing this one again, but I will also be keeping an eye on UFO Alien Invasion which is a freeware version similar to the original xcom.

After reading your guys comments I wish I had played the older version, they sound damn cool. I'm really enjoying this version, but i guess i never got to experience the older ones so can't really compare. Maybe if its popular enough they will make another one with all the features you guys want?

Yeah it was epic :D But the new one is also an excellent game. I'm hoping that they add some of those features in an expansion or in DLCs.
