XCOM reboot ditches turn-based gameplay because its "not contemporary"

I guess I'm proud to be a deluded fool then ...

Not interested in the new UFO at all ...

... and correct me if I'm wrong - but doesn't 2K publish Civilization? Which is still doing pretty well for itself? I realise of course that Civ and the old UFO are two wildly different games, but Civ's as much turn-based strategy as anything else.

And I still love it.

Do you like turn-based strategy games? Well, according to 2K’s Christoph Hartmann, you’re a deluded fool clinging desperately to a tatty anachronism. He didn’t say it in quite those words, but that’s totally what he means.

Me est a deluded phool too and proudly so. I have wiled more days and weeks away on Civ 3 and 4 than I care to remember. Some of my finest gaming times have been in turn-based games. I still 'em :)

Ditto. Heroes of Might and Magic was one of my favourite games of all time! Makes me sad...was looking for another XCOM. Just another game appealing to the generation that wants instant satisfaction.

I think his definition of contemporary is - 'does it work on consoles'.

I have no attachment to X-com so if it's a good game it will probably be on my radar, but they must call it like it is, don't say strategy isn't contemporary, say it doesn't work that well on consoles. So if you want market coverage and 60-70% of today's gamers are playing games on console, you want something that is proven to work on the platform.

Could you guys please post less biased news threads.. some people actually agree with what was said, no need to throw personal opinion into a news article.

Mygaming is more blog than news, so if you looking for something objective then you should probably search else where. Though it's not a condemnation, it just is what it is.

Wat?!?? You do realise this is a forum? I understand complaining about bias in an official review, but not in a forum.

Oh how I loved UFO Enemy Unknown. It's so sucky that they made an FPS when they could have recreated the magic of the first two games.

And to make it even worse, this new game looks bad. There are enough FPS games out there and to sit with such a great license and then take it and make a bad FPS is just unforgivable.

Someone send this chop a copy of SC2.

Well, in the article they talk about turn based strategy... But thats neither here or there.

But I guess exception can always be made when something is successful and the developer is willing.
