Ok, Bond is paid, kids are fed, wife is clothed and I can finally get my own birthday present (birthday was in april). so I was so keen on sim city as I kind of like those world builders, but then the bad reviews started popping up everywhere, BF3 was my favourite game for a while so I like the FPS's but only the realistic ones,

so my question is any suggestions on what to spend my hard earned cash on, or is their anything I should wait for, also is red dead redemption available on pc

thanks:eek:

Next week is Grid 2 and I've been campaigning it for a while now. Also I hear specials through steam have grid included also.

Tombraider also got plenty of love here so look at that one, I also loved it despite its annoying Lara cries in pain.

Otherwise I'm starting F1 201e and I can back to you on that one

BF3 isn't realistic :P . Try Arma 2 , bundled with Operation Arrowhead expansion. It's about 25-30 $ . It's the best military simulation out there, and if you are after realistic shooters Arma is the way to go, although there is a lot less emphasis placed on combat as in any real life war situation, logistics/transport/planning is 80% of the work ). But believe me, if you are new, once the bullets start flying you are gonna wish to be out of that place :P.

Also another game I would suggest is Shogun 2 Fall of the Samurai. It's fusckin insane. It's not a world builder, but you can build various building/defenses for your town(s) and upgrade your army and whatnot. Both games are very strategical.

Another suggestion is Metro Last Light. Playing it right now, it's beyond amazing. The world is beautiful , the combat is great , overall game play is great, story is great, except for the cheesy Russian dialogues.

RDR is not available for pc unfortunately.

PS : As Eugene said FC3 is definitely worth the money , will keep you busy for a long while if you decide to do all the side missions, or even just free-roam the beautiful island.

My two cents: It's worth buying a console just to be able to play Red Dead (and MK9). Just Sayin'.

Assuming that by "realistic" shooters, you mean "based in reality" as opposed to fantasy or sci-fi based, then I reckon that you will be hard pressed to find anything other than CoD or BF right now. If you mean: "actually simulates reality" then I agree with Lyt, go with Arma 2. But I have heard that both Metro: Last Light and Bioshock: Infinite are fantastic. I have played neither however.

PS. If you are willing to wait, or willing to deal with annoying technical bugs (thereby destroying any realism or immersion in the game), then go for Arma 3. You can currently get the Alpha version on Steam, but it shouldn't be too long before it releases fully (or at least goes into a decent beta).

JudeC, I see you posted this in the PC section, but do you have a PS3?

If so, I'd say invest in the PS Plus subscription. It's well worth it for the free games, and will cost about as much as a new game at retail.

BT Games still has the subscription going for cheap - R365 - http://www.btgames.co.za/bt/infopage.asp?C13702

Otherwise on PC, Tropico 4 is one of the better building management sims out there and you can often pick it up cheap on Steam, especially if you are willing to wait for a special to come around.

Bioshock Infinite was a pretty great story-driven shooter, but doesn't fit your "realistic" requirement.

If you like RTS you could wait for Company of Heroes 2 - that's probably gonna be pretty good.

Red Dead Redemption, ah jeez i love that game to bits. John Marston is my favourite character of all time and the world they created there is simply astounding with great multiplayer to boot. Not for PC unfortunately, definitely worth buying an xbox/ps3 for that game.

If you want realistic shooter, definitely go for Arma 2. Extremely steep learning curve but well worth it.

If you want to have mad fun, wing suiting around a tropical island and diving into crystal clear oceans fighting pirates. Far Cry 3.

Thanks for the suggestions, did try arma, what I meant by realistic, is that it's possible, not in space or such

Thanks James

wish I could but pc is already built and working, and disposable income is few and far between. I want a console, but between the kids wanting a wii and the wife wanting a sewing machine, my needs are way down on the priority list. but hey the lotto could still happen...

will look into the others though

Tell your wife the game library available for that sewing console is very limited :)
I can't recommend Walking Dead (the adventure) enough. Yeah, I know it is not a building or shooter but if you haven't played it yet you are missing out. It is brilliant and every now and again it's on special somewhere.

As far as shooters go, I enjoyed Spec Ops: The Line. I think it would be realistic enough for you.

hold on a sec, I thought the walking dead title was abysmal, I read somewhere (I thought on MyGaming) that the game was awful and really short, am I missing something did I misread 9 I wish I could remember where I read it. I ruled it out, cause although I loved the show, I believed this article cause in my experience most games that are spin offs of movies or tv are never really that good

There are two Walking Dead games. You were reading about the wrong one. Look for the one made by Telltale games.

MyGaming Review (Episode one only)

Oh cool that changes everything, ok, so so far walking dead is on my list (no other reason than I really enjoy the series, well except for all the talking)

now game number 2

thanks to everyone, so many choices, but it looks like arma2, just have to admit, a little warred out..... so maybe keep thinking.

This would have been so much easier if there was a clear winner, I really wanted red dead, as I like those immersive games, what about the holding off till sept for the latest GTA, nope, I will worry about that in sept, I want my games now, NOW!!!

thanks again

Have you considered Sleeping Dogs as MalicE mentioned? If you're into GTA type games you might really enjoy it.

Actually playing through Sleeping Dogs myself, its super good! Wei must be the most stressed guys ever, walking the line between cop and triad. Compelling story of note. My feminine side comes out way too much with all the different clothing options too.

I mean, whats a feminine side? pfff I dont have one of those.

oh the shame.....
