YouTube is currently rolling out video support for 48 and 60 frames per second after initially announcing the support in June.

To see the levelled up support in action, users can view several videos running at 60 fps such as Battlefield Hardline multiplayer trailer, VGHS Season 2 trailer, Titanfall gameplay and a World Record Mario Kart 8 run. Users are required to watch the videos in 720p or 1080p in a Google Chrome browser.

Sony launched the long awaited YouTube app to PlayStation 4 with the console’s Software Update 2.0 earlier this week. The YouTube app offers 1080p videos and 5.1 channel audio, along with a new YouTube on TV design.

The work lappie doesn't do very well with resolutions above 480p, so any video supportive of this I will have to view on my PC at home.

And youtube are also apparently launching a Subscription service to eliminate adverts... Ad Blocker works fine for me thanks "whistling:

Who would want to subscribe?

AdBlock Plus...

AdBlock PRO BOET  lol...

Ya i think its got more to do with them launching services like netflix further down the line... "paid for streaming services" etc...

But... but... 30fps is so much more cinematic!

WHAT ABOUT TEH CINEMATIX?!?!!!!

(Glad to see this finally being implemented)

Does youtube still use MPEG-4 compression? Or have they moved to H.264?

*edit*

Never mind:
Container: .mp4

No Edit Lists (or you may lose AV sync)
moov atom at the front of the file (Fast Start)
Audio Codec: AAC-LC

Channels: Stereo or Stereo + 5.1
Sample rate 96khz or 48 khz
Video Codec: H.264

Progressive scan (no interlacing)
High Profile
2 consecutive B frames
Closed GOP. GOP of half the frame rate.
CABAC
Variable bitrate. No bitrate limit required, though we offer recommended bit rates below for reference
Chroma subsampling: 4:2:0

2 Consecutive B frames, I guess they have to use such settings to keep the time for it to compress lower.

Games lose 30+ frames per second due to "acquiring" a "cinematic experience".
YouTube gains 30+ frames per second for smoothness in a video.

What... Just happened?

I don't mind the ads. I like supporting the Youtubers I subscribe to.

But those unskippable ads....... Urgh.....

I don't mind a 15 - 30 second AD, it supports the creator. But those 3 minute + adverts really piss me off.

I'm sure if one person out of 300,000 uses Adblock, it won't negatively affect them.
Still, I should make exceptions in ABP for channels I want to support.

Another good use of 60FPS on YouTube:
