What we’re playing this weekend

25 February 2011

Nic Simmonds

It’s Bullestorm day, and I’m pretty gosh darn excited about this new IP which promises to never take itself seriously. Whether or not it can deliver good enough gameplay to compensate for a total disregard for common modern video game cornerstones like plot, character development and depth, remains to be seen.

And by ‘remains to be seen’, I mean it remains to be seen this weekend, because that’s all I’ll be playing. Oh, and golf on Sunday (IRL).

James E. Smith

There aren’t enough hours in the weekend, especially with all these ‘socialising’ IRL side-quests I’m expected to complete. No matter, there will still be plenty of time to dissect the Dragon Age II PC demo. I’ll also be settling in for some much overdue Marvel vs. Capcom 3 game time – keep an eye out for my review next week. Maybe I’ll even find the time to finish Dead Space 2. I also want to check out the King’s Quest III Redux, since I’m a huge fan of classic adventure games.

Finally, I’ve got this cute looking HD remake of a classic platforming game sitting on my desk taunting me – The Sly Trilogy. I might even give that a spin if I haven’t made news headlines as another gaming related malnutrition death.

Myles Gray

Well, this weekend it is a no-brainer really – Rift, Rift and likely some more Rift!

Hopefully Rift will offer something fresh compared to the myriad of MMORPGs that have come and gone over the past few years. But as I mentioned in my preview, I am somewhat pensive about that possibility, especially because it is so similar to World of Warcraft. However, I am still up to the challenge, and will remain as objective as possible while playing. Also looking to hook-up with some of the local MMO-freaks here on MyGaming (you know who you are), and get our grind on (That sounds terrifying – Ed).

I might also put some time in with my DS as a change of pace. Been busy with Dragon Quest V, about 20 odd hours in, and regardless of its stale play-style, I am keen to finish it.

Tarryn van der Byl

What gets Tarryn out of bed at 8am, when she’s somewhat hungover and had only 3 hours of sleep? Mr. Game Delivery Guy With A Brand New Copy of Bulletstorm! So I’ll be mostly KILLING WITH SKILL all weekend. Loving it so far.

Dan Parmenter

On this weekend’s PS3 gaming menu is the sleeper hit The Sly Collection; I loved the original PS2 version and having the full trilogy remastered in HD is too much of awesome. I’ll also be attempting another play-through of Dead Space, which for some reason just never ceases to entertain/scare the **** out of me.

There’s also been a slew of excellent iOS releases these last couple of weeks: Gameloft’s blatant Starcraft rip-off titled Starfront is an incredibly competent RTS even on an iPhone’s screen, and I’m hoping to sneak in a hoop or two of the revived classic NBA Jam.

Oh, and if time permits I’ll definitely hit some Mass Effect 2. My Commander Shepherd is feeling decidedly underplayed and I’m most keen to get to the much hyped sex scenes to, uh… you know, see what all the fuss is about.
