Call of Duty 501-8 spawn killer temp banned, stats reset

3 March 2011

A video has been doing the rounds this week demonstrating some enormously clever guy’s amazing Call of Duty: Black Ops skills. And by “enormously clever” and “skills”, of course, I do mean “outrageously stupid” and “not-skills”.

Basically, this ballbag camps the enemy spawn point on Havana with a helicopter, blasting enemy players to hotdogs as soon as they respawn, racking up a round score of 501 frags. It’s an impressive display of button-pressing, maybe, but a tragic indictment of gamer mentality. Also, did he really expect to just get away with it? Saved game replays are like CCTV cameras, man.

Turns out that the player – and apparently everybody on his team – were subsequently served with temporary bans and full rank and stat resets. According to Treyarch community manager Josh Olin, “That’s a form of boosting, so be sure not to do it.”

And here I thought not being a gigantic asshole and ruining the game for everybody else would be one of those self-evident rules.
