Apparently Peter Hines, Bethesda’s vice prez of marketing, thinks gamers are shallow. Talking to OXM in a recent podcast, he says that, “”There’s a lot of people who say graphics don’t matter. To them I usually say ‘you’re lying’.”
Pete’s mom never taught him about books and covers, and not judging one by the other.
“[People] will look at a screenshot and make a snap decision: ‘that looks awesome’, or ‘I’m not interested’,” he explains. “So if you can make something look amazing just at first glance, it’s so much easier to get them.”
You know why it’s funny? It’s funny because, if it were true, nobody would have bought Fallout 3 or New Vegas. Man, those games are fugly.
Hines adds that great visuals are important for the player’s “sense of immersion”, and that the company is “looking for the best sense of immersion you can get” with its upcoming Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
