Deus Ex: Human Revolution PC development farmed out (in part)

24 March 2011

All those PC-gaming-is-dying conspiracy theorists had better hold onto their tinfoil hats – turns out Eidos has farmed out at least some of Deus Ex: Human Revolution’s PC development to another studio.

Asked if the PC version of the game was done in-house, game director Jean-Francois Dugas tells Shack, “No. Well, it was done in-house, but with a partnership.”

That’s a partnership with Nixxes – who’ve previously collaborated with Eidos on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, and more the PC and PS3 versions of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, the PC version of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days, and Tomb Raider Underworld for PC and PS3.

“All the design and changes to the design has been done in Montreal and sent to [Nixxes]. We review the builds. We review and then give comments about what works and what doesn’t. It’s the same process. It’s the exact same process, except that the programmers aren’t in the same office.

“It was more of a logistic problem more than anything else and having enough people to make sure it’s all on the same level, all the time. So, yeah. It was more about manpower and logistics.”

“It’s the same game and the same creative team taking care of it.”

So probably no big deal. Until the PC version turns out to be a total bomb, anyway.
