Market research company NPD has been doing what market research company NPD does – tabulating sales data. Most recently, they’ve been tabulating gross game sales data in North America since 1995, and the winner, coming in at life-to-date sales of $830.90 million is – wait for it, waaaaait for it – Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

Black Ops made second place.
The report did not, however, include sales information from downloadable platforms, nor inflation-adjusted or bundled software. In this last case, the Wii-bundled Wii Sports would have dominated the entire list, with some 75.66 million units sold and more cash printed than you could count, according to latest figures.
