Earlier this week, PopCap announced the opening of its new 4th & Battery label for “experimental” games. The first of these is Unpleasant Horse, a platformer that sends players “bouncing from cloud to cloud and on to the backs of other, cuter flying ponies, who will thus be sent plummeting to a gruesome, bone-chewing demise, thanks to an unfortunately placed series of meat grinders on the ground below.”
According to the company’s Twitter stream (spotted by Joystiq), however, Unpleasant Horse has been summarily rejected for release over Apple’s App Store for its “mature content”. The game had originally been scheduled for a free launch on iOS devices sometime later this month.
“We thought horses dying in meat grinders was wholesome family entertainment!” proclaimed the understandably bewildered employee.
Apparently 4th & Battery is appealing the rejection, and applying for a higher rating to work it out. In the meantime, they’re sucking up over Twitter, posting that, “Anyhoo, we still love Apple. Honest. We even had (and liked!) a Newton back in the day. Hope we get an appropriate rating for the game!”
