Valve kills Steam Greenlight and introduces Steam Direct

Valve has announced it will remove its Greenlight community-curation system in favour of a more direct platform.

The company plans to provide developers with an unhindered publishing path using its new Steam Direct distribution model.

This requires developers to pay a recoupable fee in order to list their game on Steam.

Steam Direct will replace Greenlight in the first half of 2017, and developers will need to complete certain paperwork in order to publish a game.

The entry fee required for developers to publish games through Steam Direct has not been announced.

Since Steam’s Discovery Update in 2016, the time users spend playing games has steadily increased and the average number of titles purchased per customer has doubled.
