Reports began emerging late last week that Sony was to relaunch the PSN in full by no later than 31 May.

According to Sony spokesman Patrick Seybold, this is not necessarily the case, and Sony has stated that it does not know when the PSN will be back up. The confusion arose because Sony announced that it is aiming to re-launch it this month. Apparently “aiming” to do something and “expecting” to do something are two different things, and Sony remains adament that its first port of call is to get the PSN’s security as tight as possible before going live again.
If Sony does not have PSN up by 31 May, then it would have been down for around 41 days. That’s 41 days of no online gaming and no PlayStation Store shopping. Capcom announced yesterday that the PSN downtime is costing the company “hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars”.
