In our columns section we ask various local gamers for their opinions on certain topics. These articles are meant to create lively debate, and the opinions expressed therein do not necessarily reflect those of MyGaming. Are you a decent writer with a cool idea for a column? Let us know in the comments section.
Well, Chris Kemp can go to hell for writing my column before I got around to it this week. This is war, ballbag.
In the meantime then, I guess I’ll just extrapolate from the prevailing theme of his article, and posit the ruling hypothesis that, actually, the overwhelming majority of gamers today are a bunch of whiny brats*.
It seems to be a fundamental law of the universe that complaints about anything will always exist in much greater abundance than approval. I’m not entirely sure why that is, but I suppose it’s probably because nothing reinforces personal convictions quite like loads of other anonymous people saying exactly the same thing, and because misery loves some company. It’s a puissant combo.
Gaming is, of course, no exception to this rule, and apparently even getting free stuff is a legitimate reason to moan. Seriously, guys? Seriously. Move over FOX News – apparently gaming is already getting more than enough bad press from gamers themselves.
And it’s not just free stuff. It’s also paying for stuff. It’s games that nobody is allowed to like, ever, because some other people don’t like them. It’s the other console. It’s consoles. It’s whatever is “draconian” this week. It’s casual gamers. It’s hardcore gamers. It’s noob tubing, and camping, and being homosexual, and all the other reasons somebody can press buttons faster than somebody else. It’s whatever this, that, or the other publisher does next, because 13-year old keyboard-based vigilantes have useful opinions about managing global corporate enterprises.
It’s not getting everything you want, exactly the way you want it, right now, and all of that subject to change instantly and permanently according to whatever.
I always wonder when this contingent of terminally grumpy people even finds the time to play games, because it seems they spend every waking hour trolling forums and article comment boxes instead. So I suppose that’s quite impressive or something.
I can’t pretend to understand it, though. I mean, I’m certainly no rainbow-powered love cult creeper, but I play games because I enjoy playing games. I thought that was kind of the point.
For everybody else then, I’ll leave you with this. It’s pretty much how I read most of the internet these days. Because that’s fun too.
* And yes, I know, I’m being a whiny brat about it. I get paid to do it. \:D/
