What we’re playing this weekend (4-5 June)

I’m going to get stuck in to Pride of Nations. It is an incredibly in-depth game, and unfortunately my pre-release review code is suffering from some ugly interface problems which are making it difficult to come to grips with all that depth. Aside from that, it is providing very challenging and interesting gameplay; It most certainly will only cater to a particular niche of masochistic strategy gamer.

I also have plenty of L.A. Noire to deduce my way through, and failing that, there’s always The Witcher 2 patch 1.2, which I anticipate will help me eek out a few more highly detailed frames of delicious Triss’s boobs RPG goodness.

Assuming the PSN doesn’t get re-hax0red, the ADSL exchange doesn’t fall over, my PS3 doesn’t shine with the Yellow Light of Death, I don’t end up in hospital yet again, or the Rapture doesn’t decide to finally rock up, I should be playing inFamous 2 this weekend.

But then again, you know what they say about assumption.

Every Friday, I get this email asking me what I’m playing this weekend, and every Friday, I’m reminded of all the DLC I’ve not finished playing. I’d like to say that this weekend – THIS WEEKEND! – will be the one that changes all of that, but it probably won’t. I’m getting ready to move into a new place, and I’ve decided to shop around for the L-shaped desk of my dreams, and a new shelf for all my figurines.

It’s a long weekend in South Korea – Monday is Memorial Day, in memory of, well, something or other. The point is I have a 3-day weekend – which means plenty of time for unproductive activities. This weekend’s agenda involves a self-run workshop on not sucking at StarCraft II, with the only attendant being myself. It’s been a month away from the game, so I’m going to try get back to a relatively competitive level (read: able to beat a small child). No play for a month makes you feel like you’re wearing oven mitts though, so if you encounter me on the ladder, be kind. Aside from that I’m still ploughing (no pun intended) my way through The Witcher 2. I’ve done some honest self-evaluation, and it turns out getting beat to death by 2 spiders means you’re still pretty terrible.

Inbetween harvesting Drowner brains and Harpy Saliva in The Witcher 2, I will be spending some time with Red Faction: Armageddon preview code this weekend. It’s a series that has never really appealed to me, and while the code I’m busy playing lacks polish, the game has the makings of something that I might actually want to play when it comes out. Check out my hands-on impressions sometime next week.

I keep getting bored with my games lately. The Witcher 2 was an exception to the rule, but games like L.A. Noire and the like I just get so sick of quickly and are a waste of hard earned money.

This weekend I will likely be hitting up some Demon’s Souls, trying a new build, and if that does not scratch the itch, maybe Borderlands will. If all else fails I shall dig into the games of old, now covered with the dust of disuse, and hopefully find something interesting there. Wish me luck!
