Researchers at Positive Technologies have found a vulnerability in Intel’s Management Engine CPU component, reported The Next Web.
The security flaw reportedly affects almost every CPU that is part of the Skylake lineup or newer.
The Intel Management Engine (IME) component can be remotely accessed via a USB interface, which is a common attack vector.
The IME is a physical component on the CPU which can access a collection of sensitive information, including encrypted storage and passwords.
Many desktop and laptop processors shipped after 2008 are affected by the vulnerability, and there is no way to remove the affected component, stated the report.
