Larian Studios has released Patch 7 for its acclaimed Early Access title Baldur’s Gate 3, which is available on Steam.

The most significant addition of the patch is the introduction of the Barbarian class to the game, which is another of the base player classes of Wizards of the Coast’s Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s character creation system is varied and deep, allowing the player to create the ideal character for their playthrough. The addition of the Barbarian class will only add to this.

The Barbarian class is a strength-based bruiser that focuses on taking less and dealing more damage through the Rage ability, which halves physical damage and grants combat bonuses.

Players will choose between two subclasses when they play as the Barbarian.

The Path of the Wildheart allows the player character to devote themselves to one of the Bestial Hearts, which each offer different effects such as healing or movement speed bonuses.

The Path of the Berserker is a more direct subclass that grants the player character additional abilities for dealing damage.

Larian Studios also released a trailer for the Barbarian class, which can be watched below.

Improvised weapons and other additions

In addition to the Barbarian class, Patch 7 adds an improvised weapon system that allows the player to use any item (or NPC) as a potential weapon.

The system is based on weight and will allow a player to throw or hit with an item or character whose weight does not exceed three times their strength score.

This will theoretically allow a character with sufficient strength to use a goblin as a throwing weapon or a party member as a bludgeon.

Patch 7 also includes a range of visual and audio improvements with an overhauled HUD, hundreds of cinematic improvements, dozens of new character animations, and a suite of bug fixes and performance enhancements.

Larian Studios also indicated with Patch 7 that Baldur’s Gate 3 is now aiming for a 2023 release date.

In an update published to Steam, Larian Studios acknowledged that players are waiting for a concrete release date but that their development process is based on quality rather than a fixed date.
