Nintendo has announced that it is ending its support for the Wii U and 3DS shop in late March this year.
Users will no longer be able to make purchases for the Wii U and 3DS, nor will they be able to download free content such as game demos.
Additionally, following March, the following services will also be made unavailable.
- 23 May – You will no longer be able to add funds to an account for the Wii U or 3DS family of systems.
- 29 August – Using a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to the Wii U and 3DS family of system accounts will no longer be possible.
- March 2023 – It will still be possible to redeem download codes on either system before March 2023.
Along with this, users who link their Nintendo Network ID (which they used for the Wii U and 3DS) to their Nintendo Account wallet (used for the Nintendo Switch) can use the shared balance to make purchases on any of the systems up until March 2023, following which the credit will only be able to be used on Nintendo Switch services.
Online gaming functionality and the redownloading of games and DLC will be possible even after the March 2023 cut-off and will be available for the foreseeable future.
