Valkyrie Elysium is a new game from Square Enix announced for a 2022 release at the PlayStation’s State of Play.

The latest game in the long-running Valkyrie series inspired by Norse Mythology, this new entry will feature fast-paced, strategic combat that includes many new attack possibilities.

However, classic elements of the previous Valkyrie games will also be present, such as recruitable warriors known as the Einherjar that can be summoned.

The combat in Valkyrie Elysium is a more modern take on the series than previous entires.

The story of Valkyrie Elysium is a ‘brand-new standalone adventure’ that is set in the past and only has loose ties to the series’ previous storylines.

Players will take control of a Valkyrie created by the All-father during Ragnarok, the End Times, and will be an emissary of redemption and hope as they struggle to save the world.

The truth and secrets behind Ragnarok and the destruction it promises will be revealed as players explore, fight and eventually decide the world’s fate.

The world of Valkyrie Elysium may be filled with ruins and danger but is still quite breathtaking.

As shown in the announcement trailer, Valkyrie Elysium will capture the essence of the Valkyrie series while still providing a fresh and modern gameplay and graphical experience.

Notably, the game will run in 4k and a stable 60 fps on the PS5, drastically improving the overall experience.

Valkyrie Elysium has no set release date but is slated to launch in 2022 across PS4, PS5 and Steam on PC.
