Unknown Worlds working on new Subnautica game

11 April 2022

Unknown Worlds has announced that the next Subnautica game is in development.

The game studio revealed the news in a tweet that listed a job opportunity for a senior narrative designer.

Whether the new game will be a direct sequel to Subnautica or if it will be a DLC-turned-standalone release like Subnautica: Below Zero remains to be seen.

Both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero are first-person survival games on the alien planet 4546-B, but Unknown Worlds might have a different direction for this new entry in the series.

The narrative designer job posting reveals that successful applicants will be responsible for defining the history and lore of a “new science fiction world”.

In addition to the new Subnautica title, an opening for a senior 3D environment artist details that a “new unannounced franchise” is also in the works.

This franchise could be the same “genre-defining game” that PUBG parent company KRAFTON referred to in a press release when it acquired Unknown Worlds.
