It’s that time of the week again to look back and examine which games were in the top ten on the Steam global revenue charts, according to SteamDB.
This week, several of the list’s stalwarts have finally been displaced, and exciting new games make their way into the spotlight.
As always, this list is based upon total revenue rather than copies sold; as such, games with a higher number of sales might not make it into the top ten if each copy is sold for a lower price.
9. and 10. Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 holds both the ninth and the tenth spots on this list, on this list because of how Steam records this title.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has two versions – the base game and an Ultimate Edition – and they are recorded as separate entities.
Although unusual, this has happened before, as was the case with Lego Star Wars: the Skywalker Saga during its release week.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently on sale, which may have contributed to it being in the top ten.
It has a Very Positive user review score on Steam.
8. Monster Hunter Rise
Monster Hunter Rise maintains its presence in the top ten from last week but drops from its fourth spot.
The latest game in the Monster Hunter franchise, the upcoming June release of the massive Sunbreak DLC is the likely reason for the title’s presence in the top ten.
New information and trailers have been released for Sunbreak and this is a key driver for the game’s current popularity.
Monster Hunter Rise has a Very Positive user review score on Steam.
7. Valve Index VR Kit
The Valve Index VR Kit has become a regular sight in the top ten, and as a result, its presence this week is not surprising.
The VR equipment bundle also comes with Half-life: Alyx.
However, it is still not available in South Africa.
6. Songs of Conquest
Songs of Conquest is a turn-based strategy game in the style of the Might and Magic games, and was released last Tuesday.
Though still an Early Access game, the new title from developer Lavapotion has been well-received by players.
Its presence in the top ten is especially noteworthy given its relatively low price tag, which means it sold many copies.
Songs of Conquest currently holds a Very Positive user review score on Steam.
5. We Were Here Forever
Another new title in the top ten, We Were Here Forever is an exploration puzzle game with co-op where players must escape from a sinister castle.
We Were Here Forever was also released last Tuesday, but it is not an Early Access title and already has DLC content.
The title has a Very Positive user review score on Steam.
4. The Forest
The Forest was released in 2018 and is a highly-regarded survival-horror game with crafting and multiplayer.
Despite being several years old, it has managed to make it into the top ten, no doubt due to both the anticipation for its sequel, Sons of the Forest, and a weekend sale that offered the game for 70% off.
Given its low price tag, its position in the top five is impressive.
The Forest has an Overwhelmingly Positive user review score on Steam.
3. Elden Ring
Elden Ring has held the second position in the top ten for several weeks and has been in the top ten each week since its launch.
The challenging FromSoftware game has proven to be one of the most successful releases in the company’s history and is also among the most significant releases thus far this year.
It will most likely be in the top ten next week, but it will be interesting to see whether it maintains its position, drops, or returns to being the number two.
Elden Ring has a Very Positive user review score on Steam.
2. Stellaris: Overlord
Stellaris was first released in 2016 by Paradox and has since gained great acclaim among game players while receiving over a dozen DLC content packs.
The most recent of these is Overlord, which introduces new vassalisation mechanics and faction origins, and was released on Thursday last week.
The base game Stellaris currently holds a Very Positive user review score on Steam, while the expansion holds a Mixed user review score.
1. Steam Deck
While Elden Ring may have dropped one position and upset the status quo, the week’s number one is once again the Steam Deck.
The hand-held PC from Valve continues to sell well and given its track record, we can say with almost certainty that it will be in the top ten next week – most likely as the number one.
The Steam Deck is currently unavailable in South Africa.
