Ubisoft has announced that the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been delayed beyond 2023.
This statement came after retailers started delisting pre-orders for the game, prompting concerns that the game had been cancelled.
However, Ubisoft stated that the game hasn’t been cancelled, but it has opted to change the development team in charge of the remake.
“The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal,” said Ubisoft.
“This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic — when it’s ready,” the company added.
This is not the first time the game has been delayed.
The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was originally expected to be released in January 2021, before it got postponed to a later date in March.
In February 2021, Ubisoft then announced a second delay, but this time postponed the game without a clear new release date in mind.
“Extra development time will allow the team to deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original,” said Ubisoft.
An internal financial report at Ubisoft said the company expected the title to release between April 2022 and March 2023 — but this is no longer the case.
There is still no clear release window, other than it will not be coming in 2023, and fans will have to wait until next year to find out more about the development schedule of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake.
