In an interview with Nikkei, company President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that the price of the Nintendo Switch will not increase despite the components’ shortage.
The component shortages come from the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in production and supply problems.
However, this has not prevented the production of Switch systems though the demand for the handheld device has exceeded the supply.
Furukawa has reaffirmed that they have no desire or intention to price people out.
The shortages did lead to a 23% sales slump last quarter, but despite this, Nintendo has projected that 21 million Switch units will be sold this fiscal year.
It is unusual to see a gaming console’s price increase following its release; as the system ages, its price will decrease.
It is encouraging, however, to confirm that even though prices could increase due to shortages, Nintendo is committed to retaining reasonable prices.
