It looks like Interceptor Entertainment’s Duke Nukem 3D: Reloaded project is on the rocks.
Not the good kind of rocks that mean there’s whiskey coming, but the bad kind of rocks that mean trouble ahead.
Actually, maybe they’re both the same kind of rocks.
Anyway, according to a post over on the Duke Nukem Reloaded website, it seems the devs have hit a bit of a licensing snag, which probably isn’t all that unexpected given that the Duke IP is big news again (even if it’s for all the wrong reasons).
“We have chosen to put the project on hold, as our license doesn’t allow us to release the game, or show media from it,” says project lead, Frederik Schreiber. “What drives us is our fans. And without being able to share what we have been working on for so long, we have decided to put the project on hold, until Gearbox Software makes a decision.”
Previously Interceptor had been granted a non-commercial license to develop the game.
An anonymous source, speaking to ScrewAttack, claims Gearbox is blocking the indie project because it’s “too good”, which might seem unlikely in almost any other circumstances but compared with Duke Nukem Forever? Not so much.
