FIFA 12 sells 3.2 million copies in a week, breaks records

5 October 2011

FIFA 12 is big. Very big.

The biggest, in fact, with EA announcing today (5 OCtober 2011) that the game has sold 3.2 million copies in its first week, making it the biggest release of the year until now (knocking out Gears of War 3), and the biggest ever sports game launch.

The company also reports that October 1, 2011 was the busiest day for online gaming in EA SPORTS history, with fans registering more than 10 million EA SPORTS game sessions, including almost eight million game sessions of FIFA 12.

You know it’s important because of all the capital letters.

“FIFA 12 is a stunning achievement by our team at EA Canada,” said Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice-President of EA SPORTS.

“The massive FIFA online community has overwhelmingly connected to the new live services in the game, including EA SPORTS Football Club, and we intend to keep them engaged all season long as FIFA 12 follows the heartbeat of the football season.”

This is MyGaming’s Tarryn van der Byl, reporting live from the FIFA 12 launch week. See you again, same time, next year, when FIFA 13 comes out.
