Battlefield 3 “offers so much more than Call of Duty,” says DICE

11 October 2011

Aaaaand in today’s edition of Battlefield 3 versus Call of Duty: The Marketing War, it’s DICE’s turn to slag off the competition, claiming Battlefield 3 “offers so much more” than Call of Duty.

Being compared with Call of Duty “feels good”, Battlefield 3 producer Patrick Liu tells Gamasutra. “They’re behemoths, and just the notion that we would be able to take a chunk from their gamers is awesome.

“They’re both military shooters, but in terms of flavor and style they’re different. But we offer so much more than they do, I think; but that’s me.”

Like… guns! No, wait. Multiplayer! Um, no wait. Oh, I know – an online pass! Derpity derp derp.

“We are trying to grow the franchise in different ways, always, and to do something new for us, whether it’s a feature like the destruction that was added in Bad Company or the single player that was also added in Bad Company,” adds Liu.

“Since then, it’s grown and grown as a franchise. Single player has become a core pillar now, and we’re adding co-op for the first time. We’ll see what happens with that; if people like it, if it’s fun, it will probably grow into a core pillar, as well.”

Insert closing witty, anecdotal comment here.
