The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim PC requirements revealed

26 October 2011

Bethesda has published the official minimum and recommended system requirements for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

As expected, you will need a pretty beefy PC to get the best out of the game, although the recommended GPU is an HD 4890 or GTX 260, neither of which are cutting edge.

Skyrim system requirements

In reference to the system requirements, Bethesda’s VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines tweeted the following:

“The Min specs get you playing. The recommended specs let you play on High, not on Ultra. You’ll want beefier rig for that.”

The recommended system specs are pretty much in line with what we expect to see from a modern AAA game, and the minimum specs are unusually modest.

The previous game in the series, The Elder Scrolls: IV: Oblivion, was hailed at the time for being the most visually impressive game ever released. However, as gorgeous as it was, it was also known for its ridiculously high system requirements.

Cross platform development has ensured that Skyrim’s system requirements will be a little more in line with what the average gamer has packed away in their gaming rig.

When Oblivion was released over five years ago it carried the following recommended system requirements, which were at the time considered rather high:

3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card
