Activision secures blackops2.com domain

10 January 2012

Activision hasn’t yet announced what it’s doing with the Call of Duty brand this year, but it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion they’ll be launching something – and it could be a Black Ops sequel.

Back in August last year, Activision registered a bunch of domains, including all the Black Ops and Modern Warfare dot coms they’ll ever need (or, at least, for the next year or so), although a blackops2 entry was conspicuously absent from the list. A blackops2 URL had been registered in May 2010 already, but the domain registrant has remained private until just recently – when it changed over to internet brand protection company MarkMonitor, who just happens to have Activision on its client portfolio, how about that.

Of course, this might be nothing more than Activision making sure that whole thing with the modernwarfare3.com doesn’t happen again, but maybe it’s because they’re doing another Black Ops this year. I mean, it’s really only a matter of time, isn’t it?
