Empire: Total War goes live on STEAM

4 March 2009

Empire: Total War is definitely one of the more exciting looking strategy titles to come along in a while. Built on a firm pedigree of quality titles, the Total War franchise has yet to disappoint, and from what we have seen and played in the demo and various game footage, we are quite confident that Empire will be no different.

The game is set for local retail release on the 13th of this month, which is next Friday.

However, for those who are itching to play and would rather skip the wait, the full release is available on Valve’s digital distribution network STEAM.

The Good

Users can start the download right now and be playing Empire: Total War by tomorrow evening.

The Bad

Firstly, the STEAM price is in line with USA pricing, and therefore is selling for $50 (R500), around R140 more than it will retail for locally.

Secondly, the download is massive, requiring 11.5 GBs of data to download. It is therefore only really a viable option for those with uncapped Broadband accounts. Alternatively, users can look into IS’s local STEAM content servers as a way to use local bandwidth to make the download.
